The Deity Inexhaustible Light Topknot attained the liberation of light illuminating the boundless realm of space.

The Deity Eyes of Many Flames attained the liberation of the quiescent light adorned with manifold merits.

The Deity Palaces of the Ten Directions Like Mount Sumeru attained the liberation of ending the suffering and afflictions of beings in all destinies.

The Deity Sovereign Majestic Light attained the liberation of freely awakening all worlds.

The Deity Light Shining throughout the Ten Directions attained the liberation of utterly destroying all deluded attachments to views.

The Deity Thunderous Sound and Lightning attained the liberation of fulfilling the power of all vows through reverberating sounds.

At that time, the Deity Universal Light Blazing Treasury, empowered by the Buddha’s majestic might, contemplated all the Fire-ruling Deities and spoke these verses:

Behold the Tathagata’s power of diligence,

Vast through inconceivable billions of kalpas;

To liberate sentient beings, he appears in the world

And causes every dark obstruction to cease.

Sentient beings, deluded, give rise to attachments to views;

Their afflictions rage like torrents and blazing fire.

The Guiding Master, through skillful means, ends them all—

Universal Gathering Light Banner awakened to this.

His merit is like space, inexhaustible;

Its furthest limit can never be found.

The Buddha’s power of great compassion remains unmoved—

Great Light Shining Everywhere rejoices in this.

I contemplate the Tathagata’s meritorious practices,

Cultivated through boundless, measureless kalpas;

Thus does he manifest the power of spiritual abilities—

The Palace Deity Myriad Wondrous Palaces clearly understands.

His cultivation through billions of kalpas cannot be conceived;

Though one seeks its limits, they cannot be known.

He expounds the true character of reality, bringing delight—

The Deity Inexhaustible Light contemplates and beholds this.

Measureless multitudes dwell throughout the ten directions;

The great assemblies now behold the Buddha before them.

His quiescent light illuminates the worlds—

Eyes of Many Flames clearly comprehends this.

The Tathagata appears throughout the worlds,

Seated within every jeweled palace,

Proclaiming the vast and boundless great Dharma—

This is the liberation of the Palace Deity of the Ten Directions.

The wisdom of all Buddhas is exceedingly vast and profound;

Their mastery appears universally throughout the worlds.

They clearly elucidate the principle of ultimate truth—

Sovereign Majestic Light awakened to this gateway.

Attachments to views and delusion enshroud them in darkness;

Bewildered sentient beings continually transmigrate.

For their sake, the Buddha teaches the wondrous Dharma gateway—

The Deity Light Shining throughout the Directions awakened and entered it.

His vast aspirations are inconceivable;

The ten powers and six paramitas have been purified.

In accord with his ancient fundamental vows, he appears in the world—

Thunderous Sound and Lightning clearly understands this.

The Water-ruling Deity Universally Raising Cloud Banners attained the liberation of benefiting all sentient beings with impartial loving-kindness.

The Deity Cloud Sound of the Ocean Tide attained the liberation of boundless Dharma adornments.

The Deity Wondrous Form Wheel Topknot attained the liberation of contemplating the sentient beings ready to be taught and gathering them in through skillful means.

The Deity Skillful Enfolding and Subduing attained the liberation of universally revealing the extremely profound realm of all Buddhas.

The Deity Stainless Fragrant Accumulation attained the liberation of universally manifesting great pure light.

The Deity Auspicious Bridge of Light and Sound attained the liberation of the pure Dharma realm, without characteristics or intrinsic nature.

The Deity Contentment and Sovereignty attained the liberation of the inexhaustible ocean of great compassion.

The Deity Pure Joy and Wholesome Sound attained the liberation of great joy within the bodhisattva assembly at the bodhimanda.

The Deity Universally Manifesting Majestic Light attained the liberation of appearing universally through the unobstructed power of great merit.

The Deity Roaring Sound Pervading the Ocean attained the liberation of contemplating all sentient beings and initiating skillful means of discipline as vast as space.

At that time, the Deity Universally Raising Cloud Banners, empowered by the Buddha’s majestic might, contemplated all the Water-ruling Deities and spoke these verses:

Pure compassion, numerous as motes of dust in a buddha-land,

Together forms one characteristic of the Tathagata;

Each and every excellent mark is likewise—

Thus one never tires of beholding the Buddha.

In former times, while the World-honored One was cultivating,

He went universally to the abodes of all Buddhas;

Never weary of cultivating meritorious practices—

Cloud Sound knows such skillful means.

The Buddha is in all lands throughout the ten directions,

Quiescent and unmoving, neither coming nor going,

Yet he enables all sentient beings to behold his body—

Wondrous Form Wheel Topknot awakened and entered this.

The Tathagata’s realm is boundless and immeasurable;

No sentient being can comprehend it.

His wondrous voice expounds it throughout the ten directions—

Skillful Enfolding and Subduing cultivated and attained this.

The World-honored One’s light is utterly inexhaustible,

Illuminating the inconceivable Dharma realm everywhere.

He teaches the Dharma, transforms, and liberates sentient beings—

Stainless Fragrant Accumulation contemplates and beholds this.

The Tathagata is pure, like empty space,

Without characteristic or form, pervading the ten directions;

Every assembly is enabled to behold him—

The Deity Auspicious Light and Sound skillfully contemplates this.

The Buddha formerly cultivated the gateway of great compassion;

His mind pervades sentient beings everywhere,

Appearing in the world like a great cloud—

Contentment knows this gateway of liberation.

Throughout all lands in the ten directions,

All behold the Tathagata seated upon the Dharma throne,

Clearly revealing and awakening them to great bodhi—

Pure Joy and Wholesome Sound realized and entered this.

The deeds of all Buddhas are unobstructed;

They travel throughout every land in the ten directions,

Manifesting great spiritual powers in every place—

Universally Manifesting Majestic Light awakened to this.

He cultivated boundless practices and skillful means,

Fulfilling them throughout the realms of sentient beings;

The wondrous functioning of his spiritual powers never pauses—

Roaring Sound Pervading the Ocean realized and entered this.

The Ocean-ruling Deity Manifesting Jeweled Light attained the liberation of impartially bestowing merit upon all sentient beings with a body adorned in jewels.

The Deity Indestructible Vajra Banner attained the liberation of skillfully safeguarding the roots of goodness of all sentient beings.

The Deity Unmixed and Stainless attained the liberation of being able to drain dry the ocean of afflictions of all sentient beings.

The Deity Ever-abiding Waves attained the liberation of causing all sentient beings to leave the evil destinies.

The Deity Auspicious Jeweled Moon attained the liberation of universally dispelling the great darkness of delusion.

The Deity Wondrous Flower Dragon Topknot attained the liberation of ending all suffering caused by the maras and bestowing peace and bliss.

The Deity Universally Sustaining Light and Flavor attained the liberation of completely curing all sentient beings of attachments to views and delusion.

The Deity Jeweled Flame Flower Light attained the liberation of giving rise to the bodhi-mind of every jeweled spiritual lineage.

The Deity Vajra Wondrous Topknot attained the liberation of the ocean of merit and the unmoving mind.

The Deity Thunderous Sound of the Ocean Tide attained the liberation of universally entering the Dharma-realm samadhi gateway.

At that time, the Deity Manifesting Jeweled Light, empowered by the Buddha’s majestic might, contemplated all the Ocean-ruling Deities and spoke these verses:

Through an inconceivable ocean of vast kalpas,

He made offerings to all Buddhas of the ten directions,

Universally bestowing the merit upon all beings;

Thus his noble beauty is beyond compare.

He appears throughout all worlds

And clearly knows the faculties and inclinations of sentient beings;

For their sake, he widely proclaims the ocean of Dharma gateways—

Indestructible Vajra Banner joyfully awakened to this.

The Buddha is the Guiding Master of the world;

His Dharma clouds and Dharma rain are beyond measure,

Draining dry the originally boundless ocean of suffering—

Unmixed Dust and Defilement awakened and entered this gateway.

Afflictions enshroud sentient beings,

Who transmigrate among the destinies and undergo suffering.

For their sake, he reveals the realm of the Tathagata—

The Deity Ever-abiding Waves realized this.

For inconceivably many kalpas, the Buddha

Cultivated meritorious practices without end,

Utterly severing the net of doubts of sentient beings—

Auspicious Jeweled Moon came to know this.

The Buddha sees sentient beings constantly terrified,

Transmigrating within the great ocean of birth and death

The Tathagata's unsurpassed guidance—

Wondrous Flower Dragon Topknot has understood it.

The realm of the Buddhas is inconceivable;

The Dharma-realm and space have the mark of equality.

He entirely removes the web of doubts of sentient beings—

Light-Bearing Flavor Spirit can proclaim this.

The Buddha-eye is pure and inconceivable,

Comprehensively beholding every realm.

With the subtle and wondrous Path, he teaches sentient beings—

Jeweled Flame Flower Light has awakened to this in his heart.

The armies of Mara are vast and numberless;

In a single instant, he destroys them all.

His mind remains unmoved, beyond conception—

Vajra Wondrous Topknot has attained this skillful means.

Throughout the lands of the ten directions, he proclaims wondrous sounds,

Pervading the Dharma-realms of all ten directions.

This is the Tathagata's realm of samadhi—

Ocean-Tide Sound Spirit clearly understands it.

Universally Surging Swift Current, a River-Ruling Spirit, attained the liberation gateway of universally raining down boundless Dharma rain.

Universally Pure Spring and Ravine Spirit attained the liberation gateway of universally appearing before all sentient beings and enabling them forever to leave afflictions behind.

Dust-Free Pure-Eyed Spirit attained the liberation gateway of using the skillful means of great compassion universally to cleanse the defiling dust of afflictions from all sentient beings.

Roaring Throughout the Ten Directions Spirit attained the liberation gateway of constantly uttering sounds that benefit sentient beings.

Universally Rescuing and Protecting Sentient Beings Spirit attained the liberation gateway of always bringing forth loving-kindness toward all living beings, without troubling or harming them.

Heat-Free Pure Light Spirit attained the liberation gateway of universally revealing all refreshing roots of goodness.

Universally Giving Rise to Joy Spirit attained the liberation gateway of fully cultivating generosity and enabling all sentient beings forever to abandon stinginess.

Vast Virtue Victorious Banner Spirit attained the liberation gateway of bringing joy to all fields of merit.

Light Illuminating All Worlds Spirit attained the liberation gateway of enabling all defiled sentient beings to become pure and all those poisoned by anger to become joyful.

Oceanic Virtue Radiance Spirit attained the liberation gateway of enabling all sentient beings to enter the ocean of liberation and always enjoy perfect happiness.

At that time, Universally Surging Swift Current Spirit, empowered by the Buddha's awesome might, universally contemplated all the River-Ruling Spirits and spoke these verses:

In the past, for the sake of sentient beings, the Tathagata

Cultivated an ocean of Dharma and boundless practices.

Like rain pouring down to dispel oppressive heat,

He extinguishes all sentient beings' afflictions.

Throughout inconceivably many kalpas in the past,

The radiance of the Buddha's great vows purified the world.

He brought faculties and dispositions to maturity and caused beings to awaken to the Path—

Universally Pure Spring Spirit has awakened to this in his heart.

With great compassion and skillful means, he universally reaches sentient beings,

Constantly appearing before them to teach and transform them,

Causing them to eradicate the defilements of affliction—

Pure-Eyed Spirit beholds this and greatly rejoices.

The Buddha proclaims wondrous sounds that all can hear;

Sentient beings delight in them and become joyful.

He enables them all to eliminate immeasurable suffering—

Roaring Everywhere Spirit attained this liberation.

In the past, the Buddha cultivated the practices of bodhi

For the benefit of sentient beings throughout immeasurable kalpas.

Therefore, his radiance pervades the world—

Universally Rescuing and Protecting Spirit clearly remembers and knows this.

In the past, the Buddha cultivated practices for sentient beings,

Teaching and transforming them through skillful means until they matured.

His pure ocean of merit removes suffering and affliction—

Heat-Free Light Spirit has beheld this.

His generosity is exceedingly vast and inexhaustible,

Benefiting all sentient beings.

It can cause all who behold him to end stinginess and greed—

Universally Joyful Spirit has awakened to this.

The Buddha's former cultivation was truly skillful,

Accomplishing a boundless ocean of merit and virtue.

All who behold the Buddha rejoice—

Virtue Victorious Banner Spirit delights in this.

The afflictions of sentient beings are entirely removed;

His loving mind regards enemies and friends with equality.

Thus he attained radiance that shines everywhere—

Universally Illuminating Worlds Spirit clearly beholds this.

The Buddha is an oceanic field of merit and virtue,

Able to lead sentient beings away from evil,

Even until they accomplish great bodhi—

Oceanic Virtue Radiance Spirit attained this liberation.

Gentle Supreme Flavor, a Crop-Ruling Spirit, attained the liberation gateway of bestowing the flavor of Dharma upon sentient beings and enabling them to accomplish the Buddha-body.

Seasonal Flower Pure Light Spirit attained the liberation gateway of enabling all sentient beings to attain vast joy.

Physical Strength and Heroic Vigor Spirit attained the liberation gateway of using all perfect Dharma gateways to purify every realm.

Increasing Vital Essence Spirit attained the liberation gateway of beholding the Buddha's immeasurable great compassion, spiritual powers, and transformations.

Universally Producing Roots and Fruits Spirit attained the liberation gateway of universally revealing the Buddha's fields of merit so that seeds planted therein are never lost.

Wondrous Adornment Circular Topknot Spirit attained the liberation gateway of universally bringing forth the flowers of pure faith in sentient beings.

Nourishing Pure Flower Spirit attained the liberation gateway of rescuing sentient beings through great loving-kindness and causing their ocean of merit and virtue to increase.

Accomplishing Wondrous Fragrance Spirit attained the liberation gateway of extensively revealing all practices of Dharma.

Delighting All Who Behold Spirit attained the liberation gateway of enabling sentient beings throughout the Dharma-realm to leave far behind all evil, indolence, sorrow, and distress, and to become entirely pure.

Stainless Radiance Spirit attained the liberation gateway of contemplating the roots of goodness of all sentient beings and teaching the Dharma in accordance with them, causing the entire assembly to be filled with joy.

At that time, Gentle Supreme Flavor Spirit, empowered by the Buddha's awesome might, universally contemplated all the Crop-Ruling Spirits and spoke these verses:

The Tathagata, supreme ocean of merit and virtue,

Universally manifests brilliant lamps that illuminate the world.

He rescues and liberates all sentient beings,

Bestowing peace and happiness without leaving anyone behind.

The World-Honored One's merit and virtue are boundless and immeasurable;

Sentient beings who hear of them do not do so in vain.

He causes them all to leave suffering and constantly rejoice—

Seasonal Flower Light Spirit realized and entered this.

The Tathagata's powers of wisdom are all perfect;

Adorned with merit and virtue, he appears in the world

And subdues all kinds of sentient beings—

Heroic Vigor clearly realized this Dharma.

In the past, the Buddha cultivated an ocean of great compassion;

Thought after thought, the Buddha's mind pervades the world.

The Buddha's spiritual powers are truly boundless—

Increasing Vital Essence Spirit contemplated and beheld this.

The Buddha constantly appears before beings throughout the world;

None of his skillful means are ever in vain.

The afflictions of sentient beings are entirely cleansed—

Producing Roots and Fruits Spirit attained this liberation.

The Buddha is the ocean of wisdom of the world,

Emitting pure radiance that pervades everywhere.

From this, vast faith and understanding arise—

Wondrous Adornment Topknot Spirit awakened and entered this.

The Buddha contemplates the world and brings forth a loving mind;

For the benefit of sentient beings, he appears,

Revealing the supreme Path, most joyful and auspicious—

This is Nourishing Pure Flower Spirit's gateway of liberation.

The Well-Gone One cultivated practices of purity

And fully proclaimed them beneath the bodhi tree.

Thus he teaches and transforms throughout the ten directions—

Accomplishing Wondrous Fragrance Spirit comprehended this.

Throughout all worlds, the Buddha

Causes beings to leave sorrow and distress and give rise to great joy.

He purifies all their faculties and desires—

Delighting All Who Behold Spirit awakened and entered this.

The Tathagata appears in the world

And contemplates what delights the hearts of sentient beings.

Through various gateways of skillful means, he brings them to maturity—

This is Stainless Radiance Spirit's gateway of liberation.

Auspiciousness, a Medicine-Ruling Spirit, attained the liberation gateway of universally contemplating the minds of all sentient beings and diligently gathering them in.

Sandalwood Grove Spirit attained the liberation gateway of gathering in sentient beings with radiance and enabling them to gain benefit.

Dust-Free Radiance Spirit attained the liberation gateway of using pure skillful means to eradicate the afflictions of all sentient beings.

Renown Universally Heard Spirit attained the liberation gateway of using great renown to increase boundless roots of goodness.

Light Manifesting from Every Pore Spirit attained the liberation gateway of the banner of great compassion swiftly reaching every realm afflicted by illness.

Destroying Darkness and Bringing Purity Spirit attained the liberation gateway of curing all blind sentient beings and enabling them to attain the pure eye of wisdom.

Universally Uttering Roaring Sounds Spirit attained the liberation gateway of proclaiming the Buddha's voice and elucidating the distinct meanings of all dharmas.

Banner of Radiance Surpassing the Sun Spirit attained the liberation gateway of serving as a good and wise spiritual friend and causing all sentient beings to bring forth roots of goodness.

Clear Vision of the Ten Directions Spirit attained the liberation gateway of the treasury of pure great compassion, skillfully employing expedient means to enable sentient beings to gain faith and understanding.

Universal Emission of Awesome Light Spirit attained the liberation gateway of expedient means that causes mindfulness of the Buddha to eradicate the illnesses of all sentient beings.

At that time, Auspicious Spirit, empowered by the Buddha’s awesome might, universally contemplated the entire assembly of Medicine-Presiding Spirits and spoke these verses:

The Tathagata’s wisdom is inconceivable;

He clearly knows every thought in sentient beings’ minds.

Skillfully employing measureless gateways of expedient means,

He eradicates the measureless sufferings of sentient beings.

The Great Hero’s skillful means are difficult to fathom;

None of his actions or deeds is ever in vain.

He invariably causes the sufferings of sentient beings to cease;

Sandalwood Grove Spirit has awakened to this.

Behold that the Dharma of all Buddhas is thus:

Throughout measureless kalpas in the past, they cultivated diligently,

Without attachment or craving toward any realm;

Dust-Free Light Spirit has realized and entered this.

Through hundreds of thousands of myriads of kalpas, a Buddha is difficult to encounter;

Whoever beholds the Buddha or hears his name

Will surely gain benefit, never in vain;

Universal Renown Spirit clearly understands this.

From every pore of the Tathagata

Light shines forth, dispelling all suffering;

The afflictions of the world are all eradicated;

Pore-Light Spirit has awakened to and entered this gateway.

Sentient beings, foolish and deluded, are blind;

Their karmic delusions, suffering, and distress are measureless.

The Buddha eradicates them all and opens the way to wisdom;

Darkness-Destroying Pure Spirit has contemplated and seen this.

The Tathagata’s single voice is boundless and measureless,

Expounding the entire ocean of Dharma gateways;

Sentient beings who hear it all understand clearly;

Roaring Voice Spirit has attained this liberation.

Behold the Buddha’s wisdom, difficult to conceive:

He manifests among all classes of beings to rescue and liberate them,

And skillfully causes all who see him to follow in accord;

Sun-Banner Savior Spirit clearly understands this.

The Tathagata’s expedient means are an ocean of great compassion;

He appears in order to rescue sentient beings,

Widely revealing the right path and teaching them;

Vision of the Ten Directions Spirit has fully understood this.

The Tathagata universally emits great light,

Illuminating every place throughout the ten directions;

Sentient beings who recollect the Buddha produce merit;

Universal Emission of Light Spirit attained this liberation gateway.

Flowers Spread Like Clouds Forest-Presiding Spirit attained the liberation gateway of the vast, boundless ocean of wisdom.

Radiant Trunk and Branches Spirit attained the liberation gateway of vast, universal purification and adornment.

Sprouting Buds Emitting Wondrousness Spirit attained the liberation gateway of fostering all kinds of sprouts of pure faith.

Auspicious Pure Leaves Spirit attained the liberation gateway of adorning all pure virtues.

Hanging Blazing Treasury Spirit attained the liberation gateway of pure, universal wisdom that constantly contemplates the entire Dharma realm.

Wondrous Adornment Light Spirit attained the liberation gateway of universally knowing the practices of all sentient beings and spreading clouds of Dharma.

Delightful Thunder Voice Spirit attained the liberation gateway of patiently enduring all disagreeable sounds while proclaiming pure tones.

Fragrant Light Pervading Everywhere Spirit attained the liberation gateway of universally manifesting throughout the ten directions the vast realms cultivated in the past.

Wondrous Light Shining Brilliantly Spirit attained the liberation gateway of benefiting the world through all virtues.

Flowers and Fruits of Luminous Flavor Spirit attained the liberation gateway of enabling all sentient beings who behold a Buddha appearing in the world always to revere and recollect him without forgetting, thereby adorning the treasury of merit.

At that time, Flowers Spread Like Clouds Spirit, empowered by the Buddha’s awesome might, universally contemplated the entire assembly of Forest-Presiding Spirits and spoke these verses:

In the past, the Buddha cultivated the practices of bodhi;

His merit and wisdom both became perfect and complete.

All powers of wisdom were fulfilled,

And he appeared in the world, emitting great light.

His measureless great compassion extends to all sentient beings;

The Tathagata cultivated purity in the past,

And therefore can now benefit the world;

Radiant Trunk and Branches Spirit clearly understands this.

If a person beholds the Buddha even once,

That person surely gains supreme entry into the profound ocean of faith.

He reveals and explains all paths of the Tathagata;

Sprouting Wondrousness Spirit attained this liberation gateway.

Every pore gathers all virtues;

Even through a hundred million kalpas, they could not be fully proclaimed.

The expedient means of all Buddhas are inconceivable;

Auspicious Leaves Spirit can clearly understand them.

I recall that in the distant past the Tathagata

Made offerings to measureless Buddhas, numerous as dust motes in a land;

His wisdom gradually increased in brilliance;

Hanging Blazing Treasury Spirit clearly understands this.

All sentient beings have manifold practices;

The World-Honored One knows them all clearly in a single thought.

His unobstructed wisdom is vast and boundless;

Wondrous Adornment Light Spirit has awakened to and entered this.

He constantly proclaims the Tathagata’s quiescent, wondrous voice,

Universally giving rise to measureless great joy;

According to their faculties and dispositions, all attain awakening;

Thunder Voice Spirit has accomplished this.

The Tathagata manifests great spiritual powers,

Pervading all lands throughout the ten directions.

The Buddha’s past cultivation enables beings to behold this;

Universal Fragrant Light Spirit has realized and entered this.

Evil beings do not know how to cultivate;

Deluded, they sink and revolve within birth and death.

For their sake, he reveals the path of wisdom;

Wondrous Light Grove Spirit has beheld this.

Because of the karmic obstructions of sentient beings,

The Buddha appears only after measureless kalpas;

Yet he constantly enables others to behold him thought after thought;

Flowers and Fruits of Flavor Spirit has contemplated this.

Jeweled Peak Blossoming Mountain-Presiding Spirit attained the liberation gateway of entering the light of the great quiescent samadhi.

Flower Grove Wondrous Cowl Spirit attained the liberation gateway of cultivating roots of loving-kindness and bringing an inconceivable number of sentient beings to maturity.

Lofty Banner Universal Illumination Spirit attained the liberation gateway of contemplating all the delights in sentient beings’ minds and purifying and adorning their faculties.

Dust-Free Jeweled Cowl Spirit attained the liberation gateway of advancing diligently throughout boundless kalpas without weariness or indolence.

Light Illuminating the Ten Directions Spirit attained the liberation gateway of universally awakening beings through the light of boundless virtues.

Great Power and Radiance Spirit attained the liberation gateway of skillfully bringing itself to maturity and also enabling sentient beings to leave foolish delusion far behind.

Awesome Light Universal Victory Spirit attained the liberation gateway of eliminating all suffering without remainder.

Subtle and Secret Wheel of Light Spirit attained the liberation gateway of proclaiming the luminous teachings and revealing all the virtues of the Tathagata.

Universal Eye Manifest Vision Spirit attained the liberation gateway of enabling all sentient beings to increase their roots of goodness, even in dreams.

He widely opens innumerable Dharma gateways,

Causing all sentient beings to gain clear awakening.

His marks and characteristics adorn his body throughout the world;

The light from his pores is entirely pure.

Through great loving-kindness and expedient means, he reveals everything;

Wondrous Cowl Mountain Spirit awakened to this gateway.

The Buddha’s body appears throughout boundless lands,

Present in its entirety in all worlds of the ten directions.

Its marks and characteristics are pure and adorned, bringing joy to those who see it;

Universal Illumination Mountain Spirit has awakened to and entered this.

Throughout many kalpas, he cultivated diligently without weariness,

Undefiled by worldly dharmas, like empty space.

Through gateways of expedient means, he liberates sentient beings;

Jeweled Cowl Spirit awakened to this gateway.

Sentient beings with darkened minds enter perilous paths;

The Buddha, pitying them, emits illuminating light,

Causing the entire world to awaken from its dream;

Light Illumination Spirit joyfully awakened in mind.

In the past, throughout all lands, he cultivated extensively,

Making offerings to innumerable Buddhas of the ten directions.

Sentient beings who behold him bring forth great vows;

Great Power Mountain Spirit has clearly seen this.

He sees all sentient beings suffering as they revolve in transmigration,

Ever bound by all their karmic obstructions;

With the light of wisdom, he eradicates them all;

Universal Victory Mountain Spirit attained this liberation.

From every pore resound wondrous voices,

Praising the Buddha according to sentient beings’ minds,

Throughout the ten directions for measureless kalpas;

Wheel of Light Mountain Spirit realized this gateway.

Throughout the ten directions, the Buddha appears before beings,

Teaching the wondrous Dharma through gateways of expedient means,

Benefiting sentient beings of manifold practices;

Manifest Vision Mountain Spirit has attained clear awakening.

The measureless Dharma gateways are like the ocean;

With a single voice he expounds them, and all understand.

Even for an entire kalpa, its exposition could never be exhausted.

This gateway of skillful means was attained by Vajra.

Universal Virtue Pure Flower, Spirit Ruling the Earth, attained the liberation gateway of observing all sentient beings universally, thought after thought, with a mind of loving-kindness and compassion.

Firm Blessings Adornment Spirit attained the liberation gateway of universally manifesting the power of all sentient beings’ merit and virtue.

Wondrous Flower Adornment Tree Spirit attained the liberation gateway of universally entering all dharmas and bringing forth the adornments of all Buddha-lands.

Universal Scattering of Multitudes of Jewels Spirit attained the liberation gateway of cultivating the various samadhi gateways, enabling sentient beings to eliminate defiling obstructions.

Pure-Eyed Observer of Time Spirit attained the liberation gateway of enabling all sentient beings always to roam in joyful ease.

Golden-Hued Wondrous Eyes Spirit attained the liberation gateway of manifesting all pure bodies to tame sentient beings.

Fragrant Hair Radiating Light Spirit attained the liberation gateway of clearly knowing the ocean of merit, virtue, and great awesome power of all Buddhas.

Serene Sound Pleasing the Mind Spirit attained the liberation gateway of universally gathering and retaining the ocean of sounds of all sentient beings.

Wondrous Flower Coiled Topknot Spirit attained the liberation gateway of perfecting the nature free from defilement.

Vajra Universal Upholding Spirit attained the liberation gateway of universally bringing forth and upholding all Dharma wheels of the Buddhas.

In the distant past, with every thought,

The Tathagata cultivated ineffable gateways

Of great loving-kindness and compassion, never ceasing;

Thus he attained an indestructible, enduring body.

All the merit and virtue created

By sentient beings and bodhisattvas throughout the three periods of time

Appear within the Tathagata’s every pore;

Blessings Adornment Earth Spirit has beheld this.

The samadhi of serene quiescence is vast indeed,

Neither arising nor ceasing, neither coming nor going;

It adorns and purifies lands and teaches sentient beings—

Wondrous Flower Earth Spirit attained this liberation.

In the distant past, the Buddha cultivated all practices

To enable sentient beings to dispel grave obstructions;

Universal Scattering of Multitudes of Jewels, Spirit Ruling the Earth,

Beheld this liberation and rejoiced at heart.

The Tathagata’s realm is boundless;

Thought after thought, he appears throughout the worlds.

Pure-Eyed Observer of Time, Spirit Ruling the Earth,

Beholds the Buddha’s practices and rejoices at heart.

His wondrous sounds are limitless and inconceivable,

Universally dispelling the afflictions of sentient beings.

Golden-Hued Eyes Spirit awakened

To the Buddha’s vast and boundless merit and virtue.

Every form and figure is manifested through transformation,

Completely filling the Dharma-realm throughout the ten directions;

Thus are all sentient beings transformed and guided—

Fragrant Hair Earth Spirit always beholds the Buddha.

His wondrous voice pervades all ten directions,

Constantly expounding throughout measureless kalpas.

Pleasing the Mind Earth Spirit thoroughly comprehends this;

Hearing it from the Buddha, the spirit rejoices with reverence.

The pores of the Buddha’s body pour forth fragrant clouds,

Pervading all lands according to sentient beings’ minds;

All who behold them develop roots of goodness—

Wondrous Flower Topknot Spirit constantly observes this.

Firm and indestructible like vajra,

More immovable than Mount Sumeru—

Such is the Buddha’s body within the world;

Universal Upholding Earth Spirit clearly beholds it.

Jewel Peak Wondrous Light, Spirit Ruling the City, attained the liberation gateway of skillful means for benefiting sentient beings.

Wondrously Adorned Palace Spirit attained the liberation gateway of knowing sentient beings’ faculties and dispositions, teaching and bringing them to maturity.

Pure Joyful Jewel Spirit attained the liberation gateway of constant rejoicing and enabling all sentient beings to enjoy blessings and virtue.

Sorrow-Free Purity Spirit attained the liberation gateway of the treasury of great compassion that rescues those who are fearful.

Blazing Banner Luminous Manifestation Spirit attained the liberation gateway of universally manifesting skillful means.

Pure Radiant Body Spirit attained the liberation gateway of awakening all ignorant and benighted sentient beings.

Sentient beings behold the Tathagata before them,

As he teaches and brings measureless multitudes to maturity.

The faculties and dispositions of sentient beings all differ;

The Buddha clearly knows them all without exception.

Wondrously Adorned Palace, Spirit Ruling the City,

Realized this gateway and rejoiced at heart.

Throughout measureless kalpas, the Tathagata cultivated practices

And safeguarded the true Dharma of all Buddhas;

His mind ever reverently served them and gave rise to joy—

Wondrous Jewel Spirit awakened to this gateway.

Since long ago, the Tathagata has dispelled

All the fears of sentient beings,

Constantly giving rise to loving-kindness and compassion for them—

Sorrow-Free City Spirit joyfully awakened to this.

The Buddha’s wisdom is vast, limitless, and boundless,

Like empty space, beyond all measure.

Flower Lamp Blazing Eyes, Spirit Ruling the City,

Learned this gateway of the Tathagata’s wondrous wisdom.

The forms and characteristics of the Buddha’s body accord with sentient beings;

According to their delights, he enables them all to behold him.

Blazing Banner Luminous Manifestation, Spirit Ruling the City,

Learned this skillful means and rejoiced at heart.

In the past, the Tathagata cultivated blessings and virtue,

Pure, vast, limitless, and boundless.

Flourishing Blessings Awesome Light, Spirit Ruling the City,

Contemplated and awakened to this, rejoicing at heart.

Sentient beings in all lands are deluded and confused,

Like those born blind, who never see at all.

For their benefit, the Buddha appears in the world—

Pure Radiance Spirit realized and entered this gateway.

The Tathagata’s sovereign power is vast and boundless,

Like clouds covering all worlds everywhere;

He even appears in dreams to bring beings under discipline—

Fragrant Banner contemplated and beheld this gateway.

Sentient beings, darkened by delusion, are as though blind,

Bound and fettered by all kinds of obstructive coverings.

The Buddha’s light shines through and opens their understanding—

Radiant Eyes City Spirit realized and entered this gateway.

Pure Adornment Banner, Spirit of the Bodhimanda, attained the liberation gateway of possessing the power of vows to manifest vast, magnificent offerings to the Buddhas.

Sumeru Jewel Light, Spirit of the Bodhimanda, attained the liberation gateway of accomplishing the vast practices of bodhi and manifesting before all sentient beings.

Thunderous Sound Banner Sign, Spirit of the Bodhimanda, attained the liberation gateway of enabling all sentient beings, according to the delights of their minds, to behold the Buddha teaching the Dharma in their dreams.

Wondrous Eyes Raining Flowers Spirit attained the liberation gateway of raining down all kinds of precious adornments.

Pure Blazing Form Spirit attained the liberation gateway of manifesting vast, subtly wondrous, and adorned bodhimandas, extensively teaching sentient beings and bringing them to maturity.

Flower Garland Pendant Topknot Spirit attained the liberation gateway of teaching the Dharma according to beings’ capacities and enabling them to give rise to right mindfulness.

Jewel-Raining Adornment Spirit attained the liberation gateway of using eloquence to universally rain down the boundless, joy-giving Dharma.

Courageous Fragrant Eyes Spirit attained the liberation gateway of extensively praising the merit and virtue of all Buddhas.

Vajra-Bodied Cloud Spirit attained the liberation gateway of manifesting boundless forms and characteristics to adorn bodhimandas.

Lotus Radiance Spirit attained the liberation gateway of remaining serene and unmoving beneath the bodhi tree while reaching everywhere throughout the ten directions.

Wondrous Light Illumining Wonders Spirit attained the liberation gateway of revealing the Tathagata’s powers of wisdom.

At that time, Pure Adornment Banner Spirit, empowered by the Buddha’s awesome might, universally contemplated all the Spirits of the Bodhimanda and spoke these verses:

I recall the Tathagata in the distant past,

Cultivating meritorious practices throughout measureless kalpas;

Whenever Buddhas appeared in the world, he made offerings to them all,

Attaining great merit and virtue as vast as empty space.

In the past, the Buddha practiced giving without end,

Throughout measureless lands as numerous as motes of dust.

Sumeru Jewel Light, Spirit of the Bodhimanda,

Recalls the Tathagata and is filled with joy.

The forms and characteristics of the Tathagata are inherently inexhaustible;

His transformations universally pervade all lands.

He constantly manifests within the dreams of sentient beings

The Thunder-Sound Banner Spirit beheld this.

For measureless kalpas the Buddha cultivated the practice of giving,

Giving up what is difficult to relinquish, with wisdom like the ocean;

He practiced such giving for the sake of sentient beings—

The Wondrous-Eyed Flower Spirit awakened to this.

Boundless forms and features, like precious clouds,

Appear throughout the world at sites of enlightenment;

The Pure Blazing Form Spirit of the Site of Enlightenment

Beholds the Buddha’s mastery and rejoices.

The ocean of sentient beings’ deeds is boundless;

The Tathagata pervades it all, showering the rain of Dharma,

Dispelling their doubts according to their faculties and dispositions—

The Flower-Tassel Banner Spirit has awakened to this.

The meanings of the measureless Dharma gates differ;

With vast eloquence, one can enter them all—

The Spirit Raining Precious Adornments

Constantly keeps this in mind, thought after thought.

All lands are ineffable;

Exhausting every word, they praise the Buddha,

And thereby attain great renown and merit—

The Courageous-Eyed Spirit can remember this.

The various forms and features are many and boundless,

Appearing everywhere beneath the bodhi tree;

The Golden-Body Cloud Spirit awakened to this gate,

Constantly contemplating the tree of enlightenment and rejoicing.

The bounds of the ten directions cannot be apprehended;

The wisdom of the Buddha seated at the site of enlightenment is likewise—

The Lotus-Radiance Spirit of the Site of Enlightenment

Attained this liberation and delights in it greatly.

Every site of enlightenment produces wondrous sounds,

Praising the Tathagata’s pure wisdom

And extolling the causal practices he has perfected—

The Wondrous Light-Illuminating Spirit heard and understood this.

The Precious-Seal Hands-and-Feet Movement Spirit attained the liberation gate of universally showering jewels and engendering vast joy.

The Lotus-Radiance Spirit attained the liberation gate of displaying the Buddha’s body seated upon every radiant and beautiful lotus throne, bringing joy to all who behold it.

The Supreme Flower-Crest Spirit attained the liberation gate of establishing, in every thought, the assemblies and sites of enlightenment of all Tathagatas.

The Spirit Who Gathers All Wholesome Views attained the liberation gate of taming boundless sentient beings whenever raising a foot and taking a step.

The Wondrous Precious Star-Banner Spirit attained the liberation gate of conjuring, in every thought, various radiant lotus nets that shower jewels and emit wondrous sounds.

The Joyful Wondrous-Sound Spirit attained the liberation gate of producing boundless joy.

The Sandalwood-Tree Light Spirit attained the liberation gate of universally awakening all assemblies at sites of enlightenment by means of fragrant winds.

The Lotus-Radiance Spirit attained the liberation gate in which every pore emits light and proclaims wondrous sounds of Dharma.

The Subtle Wondrous-Radiance Spirit attained the liberation gate of emitting from the body various nets of light that illuminate everywhere.

The Spirit Who Gathers Wondrous Flowers attained the liberation gate of awakening all sentient beings and causing them to engender abundant roots of goodness.

At that time, the Precious-Seal Hand Spirit, empowered by the Buddha’s awe-inspiring might, universally contemplated all the Feet-Movement Spirits and spoke these verses:

Throughout measureless kalpas the Buddha practiced in the past,

Making offerings to all Buddhas throughout the ten directions;

His mind always delighted in goodness and never wearied,

His vast and profound joy was like the ocean.

In every thought, his spiritual powers are inconceivable;

He conjures fragrant lotus blossoms,

And, seated upon lotus thrones, the Buddha travels everywhere—

The Lotus-Radiance Spirit clearly beholds it all.

Such is the Dharma of all Buddha-Tathagatas:

Vast assemblies pervade the ten directions,

As they display inconceivable spiritual powers—

The Supreme Flower Spirit sees and knows them all.

In every place throughout the lands of the ten directions,

Whenever he raises or lowers his foot,

He is able to bring sentient beings to accomplishment—

The Spirit Who Gathers Wholesome Views awakened to this in mind.

He manifests as many bodies as there are sentient beings;

Each of these bodies pervades the Dharma-realm,

Emitting pure light and showering jewels—

The Wondrous Precious Star Spirit realized and entered this.

The Tathagata’s realm is boundless;

Everywhere he showers the rain of Dharma, pervading all;

The assemblies behold the Buddha and rejoice—

The Wondrous-Sound-Producing Spirit sees and knows this.

The Buddha’s voice is equal to empty space;

All sounds are contained within it,

And it universally tames sentient beings—

The Sandalwood-Tree Spirit heard and understood this.

Every pore resounds with the voice of Dharma,

Proclaiming the august names of the Buddhas of the three times;

All who hear this voice rejoice—

The Lotus-Radiance Spirit beholds it thus.

The transformations of the Buddha’s body are inconceivable;

At every step he displays an ocean of characteristics,

Enabling sentient beings to behold them according to their minds—

The Wondrous-Radiance Spirit attained this liberation.

Throughout the ten directions he manifests great spiritual powers,

Awakening all sentient beings;

The Spirit Who Gathers Wondrous Flowers sees and knows

This Dharma and rejoices deeply at heart.

The Pure Joyful Realm Body-Host Spirit attained the liberation gate of recollecting the ocean of the Buddha’s past vows.

The Light Illuminating the Ten Directions Spirit attained the liberation gate of light universally illuminating boundless worlds.

The Ocean-Sound Taming Spirit attained the liberation gate of awakening all sentient beings everywhere with a great voice, causing them to rejoice and become tamed.

The Pure Flower-Adorned Crest Spirit attained the liberation gate of a body that pervades everywhere like empty space.

The Measureless Deportment Spirit attained the liberation gate of displaying the realms of all Buddhas to all sentient beings.

The Supreme Light-Adornment Spirit attained the liberation gate of enabling all hungry and deprived sentient beings to obtain complete physical strength.

The Pure-Light Fragrant-Cloud Spirit attained the liberation gate of removing the defilements of affliction from all sentient beings.

The Protecting and Sustaining Spirit attained the liberation gate of transforming the deluded demonic karma of all sentient beings.

The Universally Manifesting and Guiding Spirit attained the liberation gate of universally dwelling within all palaces of worldly rulers and displaying marks of adornment.

The Unmoving-Radiance Spirit attained the liberation gate of universally gathering all sentient beings and causing them to engender pure roots of goodness.

At that time, the Pure Joyful Realm Spirit, empowered by the Buddha’s awe-inspiring might, universally contemplated all the Body-Host Spirits and spoke these verses:

I recall, dust-mote kalpas ago,

A Buddha named Wondrous Light appeared in the world;

In the presence of that Tathagata,

The Blessed One resolved to make offerings to all Buddhas.

The Tathagata’s body emits great light,

Whose radiance completely fills the Dharma-realm;

Sentient beings who encounter it become tamed—

The Light Illuminating the Directions Spirit has beheld this.

The Tathagata’s voice pervades all lands;

The Buddha’s words and tones are wholly perfect,

Awakening every being without omission—

The Sound-Taming Spirit is filled with delight.

The Buddha’s pure body is ever quiescent and extinct;

Though universally manifesting many bodies, it remains without characteristics;

Thus it pervades every place in the world—

The Pure Flower-Adornment Spirit realized and entered this.

The Guiding Teacher’s spiritual power is inconceivable;

He enables all to behold him according to the minds of sentient beings,

Whether sitting, standing, lying down, or walking—

The Measureless Deportment Spirit awakened to this.

Even in hundreds of thousands of myriads of kalpas, a Buddha is difficult to encounter;

Appearing in the world, he benefits beings through the power of mastery,

Causing them to leave behind the suffering of poverty and destitution—

The Supreme Light-Adornment Spirit realized and entered this gate.

From every mark upon the Tathagata’s teeth,

He emits fragrant light like enveloping clouds,

Eliminating the delusions and karma of sentient beings—

The Pure-Light Fragrant-Cloud Spirit beheld this.

Sentient beings are attached to defilements, for their obstructions are heavy;

Following demonic paths, they perpetually revolve in cyclic existence;

The Tathagata reveals the gate of liberation—

The Protecting and Gathering Spirit awakened to and entered it.

I contemplate the Tathagata’s power of mastery:

He emits great light throughout the Dharma-realm

And, dwelling in royal palaces, transforms sentient beings—

The Universally Manifesting and Transforming Spirit attained this liberation.

Deluded sentient beings endure every kind of suffering;

Amidst them, the Buddha constantly rescues and protects,

Causing their afflictions to cease and their minds to rejoice—

The Unmoving-Light Spirit has seen and known this.

The Wondrous-Form Narayana Vajra-Bearing Spirit attained the liberation gate of beholding the Tathagata display a body with boundless forms and characteristics.

The Swift Sun-Disc Banner Spirit attained the liberation gate in which every hair upon the Buddha’s body is like the sun, emitting various kinds of light.

The Sumeru Flower-Radiance Spirit attained the liberation gate of conjuring measureless bodies in great spiritual transformations.

The Pure Cloud-Sound Spirit attained the liberation gate of being soundless while adapting to every kind of being.

The Wondrous-Armed Divine Lord Spirit attained the liberation-door of manifesting before all lords of the world to awaken sentient beings.

The Lovable Radiance Spirit attained the liberation-door of universally revealing all the distinct gateways within the Buddhadharma.

The Great Tree Thunder-Sound Spirit attained the liberation-door of gathering in all tree spirits by means of delightful adornments.

The Lion King Radiance Spirit attained the liberation-door of clearly and completely comprehending the vast adornments of the Tathagata’s merit and virtue.

The Auspicious-Eyed Secret Flame Spirit attained the liberation-door of universally observing the dangerous and evil minds of sentient beings and manifesting an awe-inspiring form for their sake.

The Lotus Mani-Crest Spirit attained the liberation-door of universally showering down all the wish-fulfilling adornments of bodhisattvas.

At that time, the Wondrous Form Narayana Spirit, empowered by the Buddha’s majestic might, universally contemplated the entire assembly of Vajra Spirits and spoke these verses:

You should behold the Dharma King;

Such is the Dharma of the Dharma King.

His physical marks are boundless and immeasurable,

Manifesting everywhere throughout the world.

From every hair upon the Buddha’s body

Issues an inconceivable net of light,

Like the orb of the sun,

Illuminating all realms throughout the ten directions.

The Tathagata’s power of spiritual penetration

Pervades the entire Dharma realm;

Before all sentient beings,

He manifests inexhaustible bodies.

The Tathagata proclaims the sound of Dharma,

Which is heard throughout the ten directions;

According with every kind of sentient being,

He brings complete fulfillment to their minds.

The multitudes behold the Muni

Dwelling within the royal palace,

Universally proclaiming, for all living beings,

The vast and expansive Dharma.

Where the ocean of Dharma revolves,

All meanings in their distinctions,

And the many kinds of skillful gateways

Are expounded without end.

With boundless, great skillful means,

He universally responds throughout the realms of the ten directions;

Encountering the Buddha’s pure radiance,

All behold the Buddha’s body.

He made offerings to Buddhas

As numerous as myriad kotis of dust motes;

His merit is like empty space,

And all look up to him in reverence.

His impartial power of spiritual penetration

Manifests throughout all lands;

Seated securely at the wondrous bodhimanda,

He appears universally before the multitudes.

His radiance illuminates the world,

And its light is perfectly complete.

It shines throughout the Dharma realm,

Revealing the Buddha’s meritorious practices.
