I take refuge throughout the Dharma Realm

In the Tathagatas of all dust-mote lands.

Their manifested forms, honored and extraordinary,

Are the supreme lineage of the Buddha’s Crown.

I reverently bow to the Great Compassionate Ones,

The assembly of bodhisattvas holding flowers,

Who purify the defilements of karmic obstructions

And universally benefit all sentient beings.

I take refuge in the Lord of Secrets,

Vajrapani, King of the Treasury,

Who accepted hardships in obedience to the Buddha

And protects and upholds all beings.

The hosts of Great Seers and Vidya Lords,

The shravakas and pratyekabuddhas,

Devas, nagas, and asuras

Constantly pay homage day and night.

This Great White Parasol

Covers the entire great trichiliocosm.

Its miraculous transformations are inconceivable,

Unobstructed like empty space.

The Buddhas praise it

And call it the Great Buddha-Crown King.

Through it they realize bodhi

And turn the unsurpassed Dharma wheel.

The holy assembly studies and practices it together;

I too cultivate it in accord with them.

Herein its excellent meaning and secret essentials are briefly set forth;

May protection and blessing be granted.

Enter the place of practice with Hūṃ,

Raise the face and contemplate the Buddhas.

First purify the three karmas

And awaken to the undefiled original nature.

Body and implements are all purified,

Their essence identical with that of the Tathagatas,

Filling all of empty space.

Direct the mind to bow universally,

Repenting of boundless transgressions,

All returning alike to the emptiness of Dharma-nature.

Entreat the Tathagatas

To abide forever in the world without passing away.

Rejoice in the merit of devas and humans,

Universally benefiting all living beings.

Dedicate it with one-pointed mind,

And together arouse Sarvajñā (Sarva Jñā—All-Knowing Wisdom).

Make the vow that from this time onward

You will always extensively practice the bodhisattva path.

The Mantra for Purifying the Vessel-World is:

“Nẵng mạc tát phộc bột đà mạo địa tát đát phộc. Aùn thuật điện nỗ thú đà nẵng dã, sa-phộc hạ.”

NAMAHÏ SARVA BUDDHA BODHISATVA_ OMÏ ‘SUDDHE ANU’SUDDHANÀYA SVÀHÀ

This Great Purifying Vidya is commonly used in the Tathagata Family. At the outset, perform the sprinkling purification, then establish the chamber and recite it. After seven recitations, the three karmas of body, speech, and mind, extending throughout the entire Dharma Realm, are all purified.

_ Next, universally bow to all Tathagatas.

The mantra is: “Aùn_ Tát phộc đát tha nghiệt đa bá na, mãn đà nẵng nam ca lô nhĩ.”

OMÏ _ SARVA TATHÀGATA KÀYA VAK CITTA VANDANAMÏ KARA UMI

By reciting the mantra three times and directing the mind throughout the Dharma Realm, filling lands as numerous as dust motes, the act of homage is perfected in every respect.

_ Next, the Mantra for Repenting of Beginningless Transgressions and Obstructions is:

“Aùn_ Tát phộc bá bà na hạ nẵng phộc nhật-la dã, sa-phộc hạ.”

OMÏ SARVA PÀPA DAHANA VAJRÀYA SVÀHÀ

By reciting the mantra three times, repent of all faults. Even the sins of immediate retribution are consumed like grass burned by fire, with nothing remaining.

At that time, Shakyamuni Buddha told all the bodhisattvas and the great assembly: “Good sons! You should receive and uphold the ten samadhis born from all Tathagatas: Incomparable Transcendent Victory; the Mantra-Body in Which All Tathagatas Abide; the Family of All Tathagatas; the True Great Mudra Mantra; Incomparable Light and Spiritual Powers; the Boundless and Extraordinary Great Divine Might of Dependent Origination; That Which Can Produce All Bodhisattvas; That Which Can Subdue All Kotis of Mara Hosts; That Which Subdues All Who Are Difficult to Tame; and That Which Arises from a Loving Mind and is Able to perform every undertaking that benefits sentient beings.

“Now I shall teach the Great Mudras. Next, sit facing the principal deity in the yogic posture. Anoint the hands with fragrant oil and form the Buddhas’ and Bodhisattvas’ Vajra Samaya Mudra: interlace the fingers inward to form fists and extend the two thumbs together and upright. While reciting each phrase of the mantra, place the mudra upon the crown of the head. This is the Great Heart Mudra of All Tathagatas.

_ Next, bend the left thumb into the palm. This is the Lotus-Holding Secret Mudra. While reciting each phrase of the mantra, move the mudra to the right side of the crown.

_ Next, bend the right thumb into the palm. Withdraw and straighten the left thumb. This is the Secret Mudra upheld by the entire Vajra Family. While reciting the mantra phrases, move the mudra to the left side of the crown.

All use the same Vidya, and the three families are thereby complete. The mantra is:

“Nẵng mạc tát phộc bột đà mạo địa tát đát phộc nam. A vĩ la hồng khiếm.”

NAMAHÏ SARVA BUDDHA BODHISATVANÀMÏ_ AVIRA HÙMÏ KHAMÏ

By forming the Great Mudras of all the Tathagatas and others, and through the empowerment of the Heart Mantra of the Great Diligent and Valiant One—the true Dharma of all Tathagatas—one can liberate all beings from hell, the animal realm, Yama’s realm, and the evil destinies. One can summon all bodhisattvas and holy assemblies, as well as the devas, Brahma, Indra, Yama, Varuna, Kubera, and others. Even tenth-bhumi bodhisattvas and Maheshvara can be invited and summoned, how much more so other beings.

_ Next, form the Vajra Armor Body-Protection Mudra. The two hands form hook-fists. Hold the left hand horizontally, palm upward, and place it successively below the navel, at the heart, between the eyebrows, at the throat, and on the crown. Recite the mantra:

“Nẵng mạc tam mãn đa bột đà nam. Aùn, bộ, nhập phộc la, đế nhạ hồng.”

NAMAHÏ SAMANTA BUDDHÀNÀMÏ _ OMÏ BHUHÏ JVALA TEJA HÙMÏ

With this Armor Vidya, the practitioner should seal the entire body, thereby obtaining great protection. Among all Buddha-Crown practices, this mudra possesses great majestic power, and the maras cannot oppress one. Clad in armor, one is like a king, able to accomplish every undertaking and swiftly attain siddhi.

_ Next, form the Great Wheel Mudra, the Vajra Wheel.

_ Next, form the Great Invincible Mudra, the Vidyaraja Mudra for Quelling and Dispelling Demonic Obstructions. Kneel on the right knee and keep the left knee upright. Extend the left hand behind the body in the answering gesture. With the right fist, raise the index finger upright at the heart. Lean the body forward to complete the posture. The mantra is:

“Nẵng mạc tam mãn đa bột đà nam. Aùn_ Thi lỗ, thi lỗ, chiến noa lý, ma đặng đề, sa-phộc hạ.”

NAMAHÏ SAMANTABUDDHÀNÀMÏ_ OMÏ HURU HURU CANÏDÏARI MATA

GI SVÀHÀ

The Great Invincible Vidyaraja was taught by the Buddha. He can crush all maras and quell every obstruction. Even Mahābala Kāmeśvara, Loka Mārasenarāja, Pāpīyān, and others are brought under mastery. The greatly majestic world-deities and immeasurable kotis of maras, wishing to create obstructions, may manifest myriad forms and terrifying shapes of mara armies. Yet by forming the mudra and reciting the Vidya, all naturally retreat and disperse. Therefore, use it for empowerment and for accomplishing the Buddha-Crown Dharma. Amid great obstructions, one will always receive great protection.

_ Next, form the Invitation Mudra. Interlace the fingers of both hands inward to form fists. Extend the middle fingers together, then bend their upper joints like hooks, moving them back and forth to make the gesture of invitation. The Universal Mantra for Inviting All Buddha-Crown Kings is:

“Nẵng mạc bà nga phộc đổ ổ sắt ni sáp dã, ê hê duệ tứ, bà nga noan đạt ma ma la nhạ, bát-la để sai nẵng ma la-già đà, bổ sáp-ba độ ma mạt-lân tả hàm, giả tích-la khất-sái, bát-la để hạ đa, ma la phả-la ngột la ma dã,sa-phộc hạ.”

NAMAHÏ BHAGAVATE USÏNÏÌSÏÀYA EHYEHI BHAGAVAMÏ DHARMA RÀJA PRATICCHA NAMÀRGHATA PUSÏPA, DHÙPA, VALIMÏSYA MAMÏCA CAKRÀKSÏA APRATIHATA MARA PRÏKRAMAYA _ SVÀHÀ

Form the mudra and recite the Vidya three times to alert all Buddhas and respectfully invite all the Tathagatas to descend and be present.

_ Next, form the Mass of Light Mudra. Extend the two little fingers together and upright; bend the upper joints of the ring fingers so that their tips touch; join the middle fingers firmly; bend the index fingers so that they touch each other and press upon the tips of the thumbs; then turn and bind them to establish the boundary. The mantra is:

“Nẵng mạc tam mãn đa bột đà nam, a bát-la để hạ đa xả sa na74ng nam. Aùn_ Đát tha nghiệt đế đổ sắt nga sa, a nẵng phộc lộ chỉ đá, mộ lật đà nẵng đế, phộc la thi, hồng, nhập-phộc la nhập-phộc la, đà ca đà ca, vĩ đà ca vĩ đà ca, nại la nại la, vĩ đà la vĩ đà la, đổ na đổ na, tần na tần na, hồng hồng, phán tra phán tra, sa-phộc hạ.”

NAMAHÏ SAMANTA BUDDHÀNÀMÏ APRATIHATA’SASANANÀMÏ OMÏ TATHÀGATA USÏNÏÌSÏA ÀNAVALOKITEC URNÏATE JVALASÌ HÙMÏ JVALA JVALA, DHAKA DHAKA, VIDHAKA VIDHAKA, DARA DARA, VIDARA VIDARA, CCHINDHA CCHINDHA, BHINDHA BHINDHA, HÙMÏ HÙMÏ PHATÏ PHATÏ _ SVÀHÀ

When used for protecting the body, it is the Three-Pronged Vajra-Pestle Mudra. When summoning the principal deity, use the Pestle Mudra: the two index fingers form two hooks that move back and forth. This Great Buddha-Crown King is called Mass of Light; its fierce flames blaze like the cavern of the conflagration at the end of a kalpa.

Its awesome power is difficult to describe. It can destroy all deva-maras, hosts of non-Buddhist practitioners, Maheshvara, the mighty Narayana, and all other devas; even all their spiritual powers are extinguished without remainder. When Vidyadhara Great Bodhisattvas, Hayagriva Vidyaraja, and others recite this mantra, their majestic radiance resembles a mass of fire.

Within the Buddha-Crown Family, it dispels all obstacles throughout twelve yojanas and may also establish a great sacred boundary.

_ Next, form the Accomplishing Activities Mudra. Interlace the fingers of both hands inward to form fists; extend and bend the two middle fingers together, and all activities can thereby be accomplished. Turn it three times to the left to complete it. The Mantra for Accomplishing Removal is:

“Nẵng mạc tam mãn đa bột đà nam. Tra-lỗ-hồng, mãn đà mãn đà, hồng phán tra phán tra, sa-phộc hạ.”

NAMAHÏ SAMANTA BUDDHÀNÀMÏ TÏRÙMÏ BANDHA BANDHA HÙMÏ HÙMÏ PHATÏ PHATÏ SVÀHÀ

This Activity-Accomplishing Mantra is the heart of all Buddha-Crowns. Through mindful recollection of it, all obstructing beings in water or on land that wish to cause harm have their mouths sealed. Form the mudra, place it at the heart, and empower the five places.

_ Next, form the Lotus Mudra like an open eight-petaled lotus. It is the seat of all Buddha-Tathagatas. Offer it with utmost sincerity and recite the mantra seven times:

“Nẵng mạc tát phộc bột đà mạo địa tát đát-phộc nam. Aùn, Hồng ca ma la dã, sa-phộc hạ.”

NAMAHÏ SARVA BUDDHA BODHISATVÀNÀMÏ_ OMÏ HÙMÏ KÀMALÀYA SVÀHÀ

Through this offering, the Buddhas accept the seat. In a future time, the practitioner will attain the supremely wondrous Vajra Seat.

_ Next, form the Vast and True Argha Offering. At the place where one stands, sincerely offer incense and white flowers. Then form vajra fists. Raise the middle fingers with their tips joined; bend the index fingers behind them so that they fit precisely at the base of the right index finger. The mantra is:

“Nẵng mạc bà nga phộc đổ sắt-ni sái. Ê hàm hưởng đàm, bổ sáp-ba, độ ẩm, vị cảnh nễ bán giả, bát-la để sai, hạ la hạ la. Tát phộc bộ đà địa sắt xỉ đế, đạt ma la nhạ, bát-la để hạ đá sã, sa-phộc hạ.”

NAMO BHAGAVATE USÏNÏÌSÏA _ IDÀMÏ ARGHAMÏ PUSÏPA DHÙPE GHANDHA NAIVYVEDYE PAMÏCA PRATICCHA HÀRA HÀRA SARVA BUDDHA ADHISÏTÏITE DHARMARÀJA APRATIHATÀYA SVÀHÀ

By reciting this mantra and making offerings to the Tathagata, every dust-mote land is transformed into an assembly of wondrous offerings.

_ Next, form the Buddha-Eye Mudra. In all Buddha-Crown practices, this Great Mudra should be used, received, and upheld with purity. It is supreme in eliminating transgressions.

When practicing the Buddha-Crown Kings, always form this mudra; one will certainly attain siddhi without deficiency and accomplish all Buddha-Dharmas. Even if one accumulated merit for one hundred kalpas, obtaining this mudra and Vidya would yield equal merit. This Buddha-Eye Mantra can accomplish all undertakings and is upheld by ten kotis of Buddha-Tathagatas.

Through recollection of this Vidya, all holy seers manifest, and all mantra teachings are accomplished. When confronted by cruelty, anger, or resentment, recite it and joy will arise. Evil spirits difficult to tame will submit and be subdued.

When recited amid conflict, everything becomes peaceful. Thereafter, recite it seven times, and efficacy will swiftly be realized.

_ Next, form the Mudra of the One-Syllable King, the Golden-Wheel Buddha-Crown. Interlace the fingers of both hands inward to form fists. Extend the two middle fingers together, then bend their third joints. Separate the index fingers and bend their tips. Extend the two thumbs evenly. Recite the mantra seven times:

“Nẵng mạc tam mãn đa bột đà nam. Aùn,bộ-lỗ-án.”

NAMAHÏ SAMANTA BUDDHÀNÀMÏ_ OMÏ BHRÙMÏ

This mantra was taught by Tathagatas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges. Buddhas of the present teach it, and Buddhas of the future will teach it. This mudra is called the Great Mudra and is named the Crown-Wheel King.

This mudra is itself the Buddha and benefits all sentient beings. Through the great majestic power of the Vidya, sages and saints are brought under its command, and within five yojanas no other honored deity can descend and manifest. Even tenth-bhumi bodhisattvas are bewildered before this root mantra; how then could lesser spells manifest spiritual power?

Wherever this mudra is formed, evil spirits and obstructing beings dare not dwell. Were one to proclaim the power of its merit, even throughout one hundred koti kalpas, one thousand Ganges-sand kalpas, or immeasurable and innumerable Ganges-sand kalpas, one could not exhaustively describe the merit and benefits of this spell. If wise persons receive and uphold it, they will never be overcome.

The Tathagata, the Great Teacher, said: “It cannot be praised exhaustively.” In the Buddha-Crown Dharma, accomplishment will swiftly be attained.

_ Next, form the Universal Accomplishment Mudra of All Buddha-Crowns. Interlace the fingers of both hands inward to form fists. Extend the middle fingers upright and bend their upper joints together; this is universally used for all purposes. Recite the mantra seven times. Hold the mudra above the crown and release it.

“Nẵng mạc tam mãn đa bột đà nam. Aùn, noa-lỗ-án, mãn đà, sa-phộc hạ.”

NAMAHÏ SAMANTA BUDDHÀNÀMÏ_ OMÏ DHRÙMÏ BANDHA SVÀHÀ

Through this mudra, it is as though one beholds all the Buddhas. Through the majestic power of this Vidya, yakshas difficult to tame, hosts of nagas and asuras, all evil rakshasas, and every mara become terrified and completely disperse. Whoever possesses this hand-mudra can safeguard every kind of peace and happiness. In dealings with worldly kings and others, one will always receive benefit. Whatever Dharma benefit one seeks will certainly be attained. Such is the accomplished result of the Universal Mantra King.

_ Next, form the Great Mudra of the White Parasol Buddha-Crown King, Whose Body Pervades the Entire Great Trichiliocosm Without Altering Its Boundaries, or form the Mudra of the One Mind of Ten Billion Buddhas. Recite the Great Mantra seven times.

_ Next, form the Root Great Mudra of the White Parasol. Join the palms while leaving the center hollow. Bend the ring fingers into the palms, and curve the index fingers to form a circle. This is the White Parasol Mudra. Recite the mantra seven times, then release the mudra above the crown. The mantra is:

“Nẵng mạc tam mãn đa bột đà nam, A bát-la để hạ đa xả sa nẵng nam. Aùn, đát tha nghiệt đổ sắt-ni sa, a nẵng phộc lộ cát đế, mẫu lật-đà bạt ngật-la phộc la đề. Aùn, ma ma hồng nễ.”

NAMAHÏ SAMANTA BUDDHÀNÀMÏ APRATIHATA’SASANÀNÀMÏ OMÏ TATHÀGATA USÏNÏÌSÏA ÀNAVALOKITE MUDRA CAKRA VARTTI OMÏ MAMA HÙMÏ NI

This Great Buddha-Crown King is supremely excellent and without equal. It is the power of the Buddha’s great compassion, issuing the lion’s roar and empowered by all Buddhas. Its great compassion illuminates darkness; its knowledge is profound and stainless; it brings about every auspiciousness. Bodhisattvas and devas cannot impair it. It enables one to attain non-retrogression, brings peace and happiness to all, and prevents every poison from causing injury. Devas and nagas cannot approach to inflict harm. If its image is painted and its mantra recited and upheld, siddhi will swiftly be realized.

_ Next, empower the rosary. Empower it with seven recitations, raise it to the crown of the head, and then recite 108 or 1,080 times. Afterward, return the rosary to its original place.

_ Again form the mudra of the principal deity, abide in samadhi, praise the Buddha’s merit, and make offerings as before.

_ Again form the Samaya Mudra to protect the body, bow to the Buddha, and withdraw.

The Mudra for Mantra Recitation: With both hands, place each thumb against the nail of its ring finger and press upon the nail of the middle finger. Bend the index fingers behind the middle fingers, hold the rosary, and recite. If one wishes to abide in the Buddha’s deportment, assume the Heroic Seat, hold the body perfectly upright, sit in full lotus posture, and form the Buddha Kṣiti Mudra. Turn the left palm upward. With the right hand held outside in the firm-palm gesture, place the right thumb against the nail of the right ring finger and bend the right index finger behind the right middle finger. Recite the mantra seven times, then enter samadhi. The mantra is:

“Nẵng mạc tam mãn đa bột đà nam. Vĩ nhạ duệ, ma hạ thước khất-đề đà dã, hồng, phán tra, trà-nga-lô-hồng, phán tra, sa-phộc hạ.”

When this mantra is recited, all Buddhas grant their protection. In cultivating the Buddha-Crown King, recollect it constantly during the three periods, and accomplishment will swiftly be attained. One will be unobstructed throughout the three realms.
