The Vow Text of the Noble Mañjuśrī for Arousing the Mind of Awakening

(Āryamañjuśrī Bodhicittotpāda Praṇidhāna)

Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.

Protecting all beings, abiding in their presence,
Ultimately arousing the Mind of Awakening—
For the benefit of all Sentient Beings,
May Sentient Beings be brought from saṃsāra to the other shore.

The mind of delusion and the mind of hatred are empty by their own nature;
Miserliness, greed, and arrogance are empty by their own nature.

From this very moment until Bodhi is attained,
In the interval before realization, I shall not commit
Evil karma of greed and hatred—all shall be abandoned and released.

In the practice of the Vinaya trainings, I shall always dwell with joy;
Rejoicing in Enlightenment, understanding the path of conduct,
I shall at all times cultivate virtue myself.

Without departing from the true path of Bodhi,
Should even a single Sentient Being not yet be liberated,
I shall remain through the Dark Kalpa, ever transforming and benefiting beings.
Throughout immeasurable, incalculable kalpas,
May I always wander and play in the Pure Lands of the Buddhas.

I, bearing the name..., have committed sins through attachment to this name.
Throughout all the realms of the ten directions, may all be heard:
The evil karma of my own speech and body—
In all places may it always be pure.
The evil karma of my mind shall also be purified.
May boundless evil karma be created no more.
