And to all the Buddhas, the World-Honored Ones, who ever abide in the world throughout all worlds such as these. May all the Buddhas, the World-Honored Ones, in their compassion, be mindful of me.
All the karmic transgressions that I have committed in this life or in former lives, from the beginningless cycle of birth and death until now; whether done by myself, or done at my bidding, or done by others in which I rejoiced.
Such as taking objects belonging to a stūpa or temple, belonging to the Saṅgha, or belonging to the Saṅgha of the four quarters; whether taken by myself, or taken at my bidding, or taken by others in which I rejoiced.
Such as committing the five offenses of immediate retribution; whether done by myself, or done at my bidding, or done by others in which I rejoiced. Such as committing the ten unwholesome deeds; whether done by myself, or done at my bidding, or done by others in which I rejoiced.
All such hindrances of transgression—whether concealed or not concealed—that merit falling into the hells, into the realm of hungry ghosts, into the animal realm, or into the other evil destinies; or being born in a borderland, as one of low birth, or among barbarous peoples.
I now confess and repent all such hindrances of transgression. I now pray that all the Buddhas, the World-Honored Ones, may bear witness for me and be mindful of me.
Before all the Buddhas, the World-Honored Ones, I further speak these words:
All the roots of goodness, in this present life or in other lives, that I have ever cultivated through giving, or through keeping the precepts purely, down to giving a single morsel of food to beings of the animal realm, or through cultivating pure conduct; all the roots of goodness that bring beings to maturity; all the roots of goodness that cultivate Bodhi; and all the roots of goodness that attain unsurpassed wisdom. I now gather them all together and dedicate them all to Unsurpassed Perfect and Complete Enlightenment.
I confess and repent all karmic transgressions, I rejoice in all merit, I aspire wholeheartedly to the meritorious virtues of the Buddhas, and I vow to accomplish unsurpassed wisdom.
To all the Buddhas of the past, the present, and the future, the most supreme among beings, whose meritorious virtues are immeasurable as the great ocean, I now with single-minded sincerity take refuge and pay homage.
The Liturgy of Worship and Confession Spoken by the Buddha before the Thirty-Five Buddhas
