15. Chapter Fifteen: Supreme Purity

From the Moonrise Realm to the region midway here, there is a world called Supreme Purity. There, a Buddha named Formless Adornment is presently bestowing upon the Great Bodhisattva Great Diligence the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above.

From the realm of Supreme Purity to the intervening space here, there is a world called Universal Radiance. There, a Buddha named Constellation of Luminous Virtue is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Supreme Conduct the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above. From the realm of Universal Radiance to the intervening space here, there is a world called Lofty Mark.

There, a Buddha named Benevolent Mind is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Pure Eyes the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above. From the realm of Lofty Mark to the intervening space here, there is a world called Joy. There, a Buddha named Narayana is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Tamer the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above.

From the realm of Joy to the intervening space here, there is a world called Free from Defilement. There, a Buddha named Mark Free from Defilement is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Upholder of Radiance the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above. From the realm of Free from Defilement to the intervening space here, there is a world called Excellent Treasure.

There, a Buddha named Vajra is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Destroyer of Doubt the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above. From the realm of Excellent Treasure to the intervening space here, there is a world called All Joy. There, a Buddha named Pure Mind is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Immeasurable Adornment the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above.

From the realm of All Joy to the intervening space here, there is a world called Enshrouded by Affliction. There, a Buddha named Seeker of Benefit and Peace is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Virtue of the World the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above. From the realm of Enshrouded by Affliction to the intervening space here, there is a world called Filled with Boundless Virtue.

There, a Buddha named Adorned with Excellent Reflection is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Supreme Adornment the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above. From the realm of Filled with Boundless Virtue to the intervening space here, there is a world called Equality. There, a Buddha named Destroyer of Thieves is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Unobstructed Adornment the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above.

From the realm of Equality to the intervening space here, there is a world called Peace and Security. There, a Buddha named Virtue of the Udumbara is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Ever Arousing Diligence the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above. From the realm of Peace and Security to the intervening space here, there is a world called Radiance of the Directions.

There, a Buddha named King of Pervasive Power is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Sovereign King the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above. From the realm of Radiance of the Directions to the intervening space here, there is a world called Ever Shining with Radiance. There, a Buddha named Boundless Radiant Cloud Fragrant Meru is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Wisdom Elephant the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above.

From the realm of Ever Shining with Radiance to the intervening space here, there is a world called Ever Adorned. There, a Buddha named Variegated Flowers is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Proclaimer of the Flavor of Amrita the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above. From the realm of Ever Adorned to the intervening space here, there is a world called White Canopy.

There, a Buddha named Boundless Radiance is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Unceasing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above. From the realm of White Canopy to the intervening space here, there is a world called Ever Adorned. There, a Buddha named Transformer of the Marks of Male and Female is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Boundless Voice the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above.

From the realm of Ever Adorned to the intervening space here, there is a world called A-Kiet Flowing Fragrance. There, a Buddha named Virtue of Supreme Fragrance is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Fragrant Elephant the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above. From the realm of A-Kiet Flowing Fragrance to the intervening space here, there is a world called Sandalwood Fragrance.

There, a Buddha named King of the Lofty Treasure is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Immeasurable Light the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above. From the realm of Sandalwood Fragrance to the intervening space here, there is a world called Universal Fragrance. There, a Buddha named Fragrant Meru is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Jeweled Meru the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above.

From the realm of Universal Fragrance to the intervening space here, there is a world called Universal Joy. There, a Buddha named Knower and Seer of All That Delights the Minds of Beings is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Great Guide the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above. From the realm of Universal Joy to the intervening space here, there is a world called Signlessness.

There, a Buddha named Voice of Signlessness is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Freed from the Practice of All Dharmas the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above. From the realm of Signlessness to the intervening space here, there is a world called Buddha’s Flower Adornment. There, a Buddha named Wisdom and Virtue is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Light of Wisdom the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above.

From the realm of Buddha’s Flower Adornment to the intervening space here, there is a world called Flower. There, a Buddha named Unobstructed Voice is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Wondrous Eyes the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above. From the realm of Flower to the intervening space here, there is a world called Moon.

There, a Buddha named Treasury of Pure Jewels is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Single Canopy the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above. From the realm of Moon to the intervening space here, there is a world called Firm. There, a Buddha named Immovable Power is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Excellent Mind the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above.

From the realm of Firm to the intervening space here, there is a world called Steadfast. There, a Buddha named Kasyapa is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Lamp of Radiance the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above. From the realm of Steadfast to the intervening space here, there is a world called Single Lotus Canopy.

There, a Buddha named Revealer of All Conditions is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Profound Flower the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above. From the realm of Single Lotus Canopy to the intervening space here, there is a world called Sandalwood. There, a Buddha named Tamer is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Wisdom the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above.

From the realm of Sandalwood to the intervening space here, there is a world called Ultimate Truth. There, a Buddha named Accomplisher of Benefit is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Manifested Foundation the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above. From the realm of Ultimate Truth to the intervening space here, there is a world called Assembly of Moons.

There, a Buddha named Arising Virtue is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Boundless the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above. From the realm of Assembly of Moons to the intervening space here, there is a world called Free from Decline and Affliction. There, a Buddha named Renown is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Flower Virtue the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above.

From the realm of Free from Decline and Affliction to the intervening space here, there is a world called Wondrous Joy. There, a Buddha named Destroyer of the Doubts of Beings is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Mastery of Joy the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above. From the realm of Wondrous Joy to the intervening space here, there is a world called Free from Dust and Defilement.

There, a Buddha named Wisdom and Virtue is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Contemplator of Flowers the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above.

From the world Free from Dust and Defilement to this intervening region, there is a world named Free from Birth. There dwells a Buddha named Virtuous Flavor, who is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the great bodhisattva Destroyer of All Theories, as described above. From the world Free from Birth to this intervening region, there is a world named Adorned with Various Flowers.

There dwells a Buddha named King of Constellations, who is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the great bodhisattva Excellent Discernment, as described above. From the world Adorned with Various Flowers to this intervening region, there is a world named Vast Expanse. There dwells a Buddha named Immeasurable Marks, who is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the great bodhisattva Jeweled Marks, as described above.

From the world Vast Expanse to this intervening region, there is a world named Dread. There dwells a Buddha named Sandalwood, who is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the great bodhisattva Lunar Virtue, as described above. From the world Dread to this intervening region, there is a world named Multitude of Nets.

There dwells a Buddha named Luminous Net, who is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the great bodhisattva Fearless Voice, as described above. From the world Multitude of Nets to this intervening region, there is a world named Fearlessness. There dwells a Buddha named Brahma Voice, who is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the great bodhisattva Voice of Brahma, as described above.

From the world Fearlessness to this intervening region, there is a world named Worthy Refuge. There dwells a Buddha named Immeasurable Virtue of the Nature, who is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the great bodhisattva Immeasurable Voice, as described above. From the world Worthy Refuge to this intervening region, there is a world named Free from All Conditions.

There dwells a Buddha named Unconditioned by Any Dharma, who is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the great bodhisattva Unobstructed Adornment, as described above. From the world Free from All Conditions to this intervening region, there is a world named Ever Proclaimed. There dwells a Buddha named Inextinguishable Voice, who is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the great bodhisattva Boundless Eloquence, as described above.

From the world Ever Proclaimed to this intervening region, there is a world named Ever Joyful. There dwells a Buddha named Boundless Mastery, who is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the great bodhisattva Unceasing Eloquence, as described above. From the world Ever Joyful to this intervening region, there is a world named Universally Manifest.

There dwells a Buddha named Revealer of All Dharmas, who is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the great bodhisattva Adornment without Marks, as described above. From the world Universally Manifest to this intervening region, there is a world named Universally Seen. There dwells a Buddha named Universal Manifestation of All Dharmas, who is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the great bodhisattva Renowned Eye, as described above.

From the world Universally Seen to this intervening region, there is a world named Producer of All Virtues. There dwells a Buddha named Producer of Boundless Virtue, who is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the great bodhisattva Pure Eye, as described above. From the world Producer of All Virtues to this intervening region, there is a world named Free from Defilement.

There dwells a Buddha named Wisdom Emitting Light, who is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the great bodhisattva Practice of No Dharma, as described above. From the world Free from Defilement to this intervening region, there is a world named Abounding in Blue Lotuses. There dwells a Buddha named Supreme Flower, who is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the great bodhisattva Red Lotus Mark, as described above.

From the world Abounding in Blue Lotuses to this intervening region, there is a world named Abounding in Red Lotuses. There dwells a Buddha named Born of Fragrance, who is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the great bodhisattva Fragrant Pavilion, as described above. From the world Abounding in Red Lotuses to this intervening region, there is a world named Abounding in Flowers.

There dwells a Buddha named Flower-Born Virtue, who is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the great bodhisattva Destroyer of All Dharmas, as described above. From the world Abounding in Flowers to this intervening region, there is a world named Thousand Worlds. There dwells a Buddha named Multitude of the Resolute, who is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the great bodhisattva Stainless One, as described above.

From the world Thousand Worlds to this intervening region, there is a world named Wondrous Radiance. There dwells a Buddha named Wisdom Light, who is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the great bodhisattva Wondrous Birth, as described above. From the world Wondrous Radiance to this intervening region, there is a world named Joyous Virtue.

There dwells a Buddha named Assembly of Wisdom, who is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the great bodhisattva Supreme Assembly, as described above. From the world Joyous Virtue to this intervening region, there is a world named Manifold Joys. There dwells a Buddha named Free from the Womb, who is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the great bodhisattva Transformer of All Difficulties, as described above.

From the world Manifold Joys to this intervening region, there is a world named Free from Turbidity. There dwells a Buddha named King of Physicians, who is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the great bodhisattva Śikhin, as described above.

From the world Free from Turbidity to this intervening region, there is a world named Immeasurable. There dwells a Buddha named Destroyer of All Afflictions, who is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the great bodhisattva Adornment without Distinctions, as described above. From the world Immeasurable to this intervening region, there is a world named Universally Praised.

There dwells a Buddha named Praised for Boundless Wisdom, who is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the great bodhisattva Producer of Boundless Virtues, as described above. From the world Universally Praised to this intervening region, there is a world named Multitude of the Resolute. There dwells a Buddha named Sandalwood Grotto Virtue, who is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the great bodhisattva Wisdom Grotto Virtue, as described above.

From the world Multitude of the Resolute to this intervening region, there is a world named Endowed with Majestic Virtue. There dwells a Buddha named Endowed with Buddha-Flower Birth, who is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the great bodhisattva Lofty Birth, as described above. From the world Endowed with Majestic Virtue to this intervening region, there is a world named Multitude of Jewels.

There dwells a Buddha named Sāla King Firmly Established, who is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the great bodhisattva Abiding Securely in Moral Discipline, as described above.

From the land of Many Jewels to this intermediate region, there is a world named Lord of the Directions. There, a Buddha named Moon-Risen Light is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Moon the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above. From the land of Lord of the Directions to this intermediate region, there is a world named Great Ocean.

There, a Buddha named Tamer is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Sorrowless Mind the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above. From the land of Great Ocean to this intermediate region, there is a world named Abiding in Peace. There, a Buddha named Firm as Mount Sumeru is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Cessation the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above.

From the land of Abiding in Peace to this intermediate region, there is a world named Fearlessness. There, a Buddha named Renowned for Giving is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Vast Cause the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above. From the land of Fearlessness to this intermediate region, there is a world named Beloved Fragrance.

There, a Buddha named One Who Dispels All Difficulties is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Renowned for Freedom from Bonds the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above. From the land of Beloved Fragrance to this intermediate region, there is a world named Abode of All Merits. There, a Buddha named Body of Renown is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Body of Wisdom the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above.

From the land of Abode of All Merits to this intermediate region, there is a world named Abode of All Blessings. There, a Buddha named Firm and Steadfast is presently bestowing upon the great bodhisattva Supreme Dharma the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above.

From the realm of Abiding in All Merit to this intervening region, there is a world named Sorrowless Mind. There, a Buddha named Freedom from Sorrow is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Jewel Flame, as stated above. From the realm of Sorrowless Mind to this intervening region, there is a world named Renown.

There, a Buddha named Flower-Born King of Virtue is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Flower King, as stated above. From the realm of Renown to this intervening region, there is a world named Arrayed with Flowers. There, a Buddha named Revealing the Marks of Flowers is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Fragrant Virtue, as stated above.

From the realm of Arrayed with Flowers to this intervening region, there is a world named Pervading the Ten Directions. There, a Buddha named Universally Emitting Fragrant Light is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Certain Accomplishment, as stated above. From the realm of Pervading the Ten Directions to this intervening region, there is a world named Myriad Fragrances.

There, a Buddha named Clear Eyes is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Great Clarity, as stated above. From the realm of Myriad Fragrances to this intervening region, there is a world named Myriad Flames. There, a Buddha named Emitting Flames is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Blazing Banner, as stated above.

From the realm of Myriad Flames to this intervening region, there is a world named Great Sound. There, a Buddha named Pervading the Ten Directions is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Great Sound, as stated above. From the realm of Great Sound to this intervening region, there is a world named Radiance.

There, a Buddha named Lofty Radiance is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Mount Sumeru, as stated above. From the realm of Radiance to this intervening region, there is a world named Jewel Radiance. There, a Buddha named Jewel-Illuminating Radiance is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Jewel Virtue, as stated above.

From the realm of Jewel Radiance to this intervening region, there is a world named Ever-Fragrant with Incense. There, a Buddha named Blazing Fire is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Fire Radiance, as stated above. From the realm of Ever-Fragrant with Incense to this intervening region, there is a world named Auspicious Existence.

There, a Buddha named Sovereign Power over the Three Realms is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Auspiciousness of the Three Realms of Existence, as stated above. From the realm of Auspicious Existence to this intervening region, there is a world named Fearlessness. There, a Buddha named Radiant Wheel is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Bestower of Fearlessness, as stated above.

From the realm of Fearlessness to this intervening region, there is a world named Ever-Mysterious. There, a Buddha named Sovereign in Scattering Flowers through Space is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Image, as stated above. From the realm of Ever-Mysterious to this intervening region, there is a world named Peaceful King.

There, a Buddha named Power of Perfect Sovereignty is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Born of Virtue, as stated above. From the realm of Peaceful King to this intervening region, there is a world named Universal Freedom. There, a Buddha named Drum Sound is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Diffusing Fragrance, as stated above.

From the realm of Universal Freedom to this intervening region, there is a world named Peace and Security. There, a Buddha named Universal Sovereignty is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Practice of Non-Practice, as stated above. From the realm of Peace and Security to this intervening region, there is a world named Fragrance Pervading Everywhere.

There, a Buddha named Pervasion of Wisdom is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Free from Illness, as stated above. From the realm of Fragrance Pervading Everywhere to this intervening region, there is a world named Dharani. There, a Buddha named King of Mountains is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Sovereign King of Dharani, as stated above.

From the realm of Dharani to this intervening region, there is a world named Wondrous Dharani. There, a Buddha named Lofty King of Radiant Power is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Sovereign Power, as stated above. From the realm of Wondrous Dharani to this intervening region, there is a world named Wondrous Equality.

There, a Buddha named Securely Established is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Parayana, as stated above. From the realm of Wondrous Equality to this intervening region, there is a world named Single Adornment. There, a Buddha named Adornment of the Buddha’s Sovereignty is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Perfectly Fulfilled Mind, as stated above.

From the realm of Single Adornment to this intervening region, there is a world named Repose. There, a Buddha named Accumulation of All Merits is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Formless Adornment, as stated above. From the realm of Repose to this intervening region, there is a world named Beloved.

There, a Buddha named Accomplishment of Jewel Virtue is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Practice of Wholesome Reflection, as stated above. From the realm of Beloved to this intervening region, there is a world named Arrayed Constellations. There, a Buddha named Wisdom-Born Virtue is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Joy, as stated above.

From the realm of Arrayed Constellations to this intervening region, there is a world named Adorned with Arrayed Constellations. There, a Buddha named Accumulation of Wisdom-Born Radiant Virtue is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Wondrous Constellation, as stated above. From the realm of Adorned with Arrayed Constellations to this intervening region, there is a world named Lotus Flower.

There, a Buddha named Flower-Born King is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Born of the Buddha-Dharma, as stated above. From the realm of Lotus Flower to this intervening region, there is a world named Myriad Flowers. There, a Buddha named Sovereign of the Supreme Dharma is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Wisdom Turning Back Difficulties, as stated above.

From the realm of Myriad Flowers to this intervening region, there is a world named Abounding in White Lotuses. There, a Buddha named Half-Moon Light is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Sumeru Virtue, as stated above. From the realm of Abounding in White Lotuses to this intervening region, there is a world named Vast.

There, a Buddha named Fragrant Elephant is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Immovable, as stated above. From the realm of Vast to this intervening region, there is a world named Supremely Wondrous. There, a Buddha named Immeasurable Radiance is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Unobstructed Sound, as stated above.

From the realm of Supremely Wondrous to this intervening region, there is a world named Myriad Fragrances. There, a Buddha named Lotus Cluster is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Pusya, as stated above. From the realm of Myriad Fragrances to this intervening region, there is a world named Myriad Flowers.

There, a Buddha named Flower-Born Virtue is presently bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Crown Virtue, as stated above.

From the Land of Myriad Flowers to this intermediate region, there is a world named Bodhisattva Assembly Terrace. There, a Buddha named Sandalwood Virtue is presently bestowing upon the Great Bodhisattva Wondrous Eye the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above. From the Land of Bodhisattva Assembly Terrace to this intermediate region, there is a world named Jewel Treasury.

There, a Buddha named Jewel Gathering is presently bestowing upon the Great Bodhisattva Joyful Vision the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above. From the Land of Jewel Treasury to this intermediate region, there is a world named Luminous Wisdom. There, a Buddha named Supreme Luminous Wisdom is presently bestowing upon the Great Bodhisattva Good Awakening the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi, as stated above.

There, a Buddha named Lord of Saha is now bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Dharma Lamp, as stated above. From the realm of Abode of Virtue to this intervening region, there is a world named Love. There, a Buddha named Supreme Detachment is now bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Lord of Saha, as stated above.

From the realm of Love to this intervening region, there is a world named Delightful Destination. There, a Buddha named Tamer is now bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Delightful Destination, as stated above. From the realm of Delightful Destination to this intervening region, there is a world named Wondrous Reflection.

There, a Buddha named Foremost in Wisdom is now bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Supreme Wisdom, as stated above. From the realm of Wondrous Reflection to this intervening region, there is a world named Lotus-Born. There, a Buddha named Supreme Virtue is now bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Stainless One, as stated above.

From the realm of Lotus-Born to this intervening region, there is a world named Birth of Boundless Virtue. There, a Buddha named One Who Discerns the Profound Minds of Sentient Beings is now bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Self-Luminous Lamp, as stated above. From the realm of Birth of Boundless Virtue to this intervening region, there is a world named Joy.

There, a Buddha named Jewel of Boundless Virtue is now bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Valiant One, as stated above. From the realm of Joy to this intervening region, there is a world named Repose. There, a Buddha named One Who Freely Extinguishes All Sensations is now bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Ever-Proclaiming Voice, as stated above.

From the realm of Repose to this intervening region, there is a world named Bliss. There, a Buddha named Unobstructed Light is now bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Wondrous Eye, as stated above.

Beyond the realm of Bliss, across lands as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, there is a world named Well-Established. There, a Buddha named Unobstructed Light, Supreme Buddha-Flower-Born Virtue is now bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed bodhi upon the Great Bodhisattva Dharani Sovereign of Mastery, as stated above.

16. Chapter Sixteen: Scattering Flowers

Beyond the realm of Well-Established, across lands as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, there is a world named Universal Accomplishment of Virtue. There, a Buddha named One Who Freely Manifests the Marks of a Buddha amid All Conditions is now bestowing the prediction of unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment upon the Great Bodhisattva Adorned by the Roots of Goodness of the Buddha-Contemplation Samadhi, as stated above.

At that time, this bodhisattva saw a brilliant light and heard a clear sound. He then asked the Tathagata One Who Freely Manifests the Marks of a Buddha amid All Conditions: “World-Honored One, from which Buddha are this light and sound?” The Buddha replied: “Good man! West of here, more than twelve thousand asamkhya realms away, there is a world named Saha.

There, a Buddha named Shakyamuni is presently teaching the Dharma for the bodhisattvas, dispelling the doubts of sentient beings and causing them to rejoice in the treasury of Mahayana sutras. This is the light and sound of Shakyamuni Buddha.”

At that time, the Bodhisattva Adorned by the Roots of Goodness of the Buddha-Contemplation Samadhi held flowers in his hands and scattered them toward the Saha world. Through the causes and conditions of the power of his vows, he traveled freely through the various lands, proceeded directly to the Saha world, entered the city of Rajagriha, and went straight to the Bamboo Grove. When the fourfold assembly encountered him, they were greatly astonished. The bodhisattva held a lotus flower, circumambulated the Buddha three times, and then stood before him. He spoke the following verses in praise of the Buddha and the bodhisattvas:

The World-Honored One, whose wisdom is unfathomable,

Completely penetrates the immeasurable wondrous Dharma.

With spiritual powers he manifests boundless forms,

Illuminating all worlds throughout the ten directions.

The bodhisattvas are perfected in wisdom.

Skilled in questions and answers, they know no fear;

The Buddha’s renown resounds throughout every region.

Exercising spiritual powers, they come to this place,

Resolute throughout their lives in practicing goodness,

Extraordinarily valiant and magnificently adorned;

Their fragrant renown resounds throughout the ten directions,

And they assemble in full within the Saha world.

Manifesting loving-kindness, they liberate beings beyond measure,

Making firm and fearless vows.

I now ask the World-Honored One:

How is unsurpassed awakening realized?

How should the Buddha-Dharma be cultivated?

How are Mara’s armies destroyed and the Buddha’s path entered?

At that time, the World-Honored One Shakyamuni held the flower and miraculously revealed what was yet to come:

Within the flower appeared a Buddha’s incomparable body.

Hearing the true words of the eternal Dharma,

His mind rejoiced and became exultant;

He bowed his head in homage and stood to one side.

When they looked into empty space, no one could be seen.

The great assembly became doubtful and asked:

“Who was that, and whence did he come?

Why did he vanish immediately after questioning the World-Honored One?”

The fourfold assembly looked at one another, awed by his majestic countenance,

And dared not inquire further about their doubts.

The Buddha then manifested the form of Ananda.

He appeared exactly like one of the bhiksus.

“Who was that?” he asked the World-Honored One.

Before his words were finished, the figure vanished.

“We beseech the World-Honored One to answer at once.

From what cause did this assuredly arise?”

The Buddha replied, “This flower appeared in the East,

Having passed through innumerable realms in many directions.

Examine it carefully and look intently:

Its cause lies in a bodhisattva’s manifestation of spiritual powers,

His cultivation and practice of the exceedingly profound path,

And the magnificent vows arising from his own mind.

Whoever aspires to seek the Buddha’s path

Should skillfully reflect and stabilize the mind,

Causing those who behold him to become ever more vigorous,

And to have profound faith in the wholesome Dharma.

He delights not in indolence, but constantly upholds the precepts;

His vast learning is like the blue ocean.

Single-mindedly cultivating skillful means,

He is never born from a womb, but appears through transformation,

As life after life he passes through birth and death.

He constantly remains mindful of the Dharma and reflects rightly;

Wherever he is born, he encounters Buddhas in places of goodness and compassion,

Sharing a single essence and likeness with the sages and saints.

He stays far from sensual desire and shuns evil thoughts.

Faithful to the wondrous Dharma, he draws near to the station of noble realization,

Clearly perceiving peace, joy, and benefit.

Countless wholesome benefits arise—

Such is the celebrated merit of the great being.

Were one to praise it, no end could be reached.

If a faithful woman, already endowed with faith,

Hears of the bodhisattva’s awesome virtue and gives rise to sincerity,

She will never again assume a woman’s body

And will stand ready to guide sentient beings.

If any man or woman

Hears the Buddha’s name, how great will be their joy!

They will vow to practice the wondrous path,

And when their lives end, they will enter the Buddha’s path.

If men, women, and all sentient beings

Hear the names and virtues of the bodhisattvas,

Those faithful ones who already possess pure minds

Will never retreat from the path of bodhi,

But will practice in accordance with the Dharma together with sentient beings.

Such is the praise proclaimed in the bodhisattva’s name.

Though the Buddha’s path has not yet been completely accomplished,

His immeasurable merit is difficult to equal.

It is like merely beholding the medicinal herb called

‘Healer of the Hundred Illnesses of Sentient Beings’:

For a full yojana all around,

Even a raging conflagration could hardly burn it.

Though mingled within it are many venomous creatures,

All malign vapors are instantly dispersed.

The medicinal herb emits a fragrant perfume;

The mind is freed from affliction, and the body is immediately restored.

Its roots, leaves, branches, fruits, and flowers

Grow naturally, though no one plants them,

And their many uses reach every household,

Completely eliminating all poisonous harm.

The miraculous plant cures every kind of illness—

How much more so when its roots and stalk are taken as medicine!

The great bodhisattvas are likewise:

Their Buddha-work resounds throughout all ten directions.”

how much more so to behold them and make offerings,

to draw near and have one’s doubts clearly resolved.

The Buddha manifested before Ananda, majestic in appearance.

He immediately bowed reverently and asked the Blessed One:

“The Buddha has spoken of great bodhisattvas manifesting bodies,

whose renowned names resound everywhere through their Buddha-work.

Are there any in the Saha world or not?

Please explain this for me, O Blessed One, whom I revere.”

The Buddha said, “My lifespan will not last much longer.

Now I see that sentient beings possess scant merit;

they find it difficult to have profound faith in the fruit of bodhi.

The Tathagata has taught immeasurable wondrous Dharma.

Ananda, know that the bodhisattvas have faith.

Now, in this great assembly, I proclaim the teachings

and the magnificent virtues of the bodhisattvas,

whom all Buddhas of the ten directions praise.

Ananda, carefully observe Bạt Đà Bà,

and behold Bửu Tích and the Buddha-Dharma,

the Guiding Master who leads the way like a radiant star;

the assembly of brahmins and Na La Đạt.

Also contemplate the bhikshu Đế Đức,

the devas Bà Lâu Na and Bà La Na,

and likewise contemplate the great bhikshu Thiện Lực.

Their practices and vows are difficult to follow and conceive.

These bodhisattvas are truthful, never false.

That unfailing truth is their adornment;

whoever beholds it immediately gains benefit and happiness,

how much more those who draw near and study their teachings.

If any sentient being beholds their forms,

or merely hears and learns their illustrious names,

such a being will end all doubts concerning the Buddha-path

and will no longer fall into the evil destinies.

One must constantly cultivate the practices with diligent concentration,

skillfully cultivate true wisdom,

always uphold the precepts and attain purity,

and fully comprehend the aspiration for the Supreme Vehicle.

Ananda, you should know that throughout the realms of the ten directions,

all Buddhas, Blessed Ones, now present

unanimously praise the bodhisattvas

for the lofty and magnificent adornments of their vows.

They laud these great beings without stint,

causing all the bodhisattvas to give rise to reverence.

They all long to meet the Venerable Shakyamuni,

together with the complete assembly of greatly virtuous Sangha members.

At that very moment, when the Buddhas praised them,

each bowed to the Buddha with a heart of reverence,

then vanished so that no one could clearly see them;

all arrived together in the Saha world at once.

Hearing that the bodhisattvas’ power of vows was fulfilled,

they diligently cultivated the unsurpassed path.

The Tathagata bestowed predictions that they would later become Buddhas;

their lands and lifespans would be inconceivable,

as would the immeasurable number of kalpas involved.

If they encounter causes and conditions of unwholesome karma,

created through karmic causes and conditions in former lives,

and are born together with me in an evil and defiled age—

although I have now attained the unsurpassed path,

I find no joy in beholding the future:

bhikshus will break the precepts and violate the rules of fasting,

being violent in nature and foul-mouthed, speaking harsh words.

On hearing of such unwholesome deeds,

bodhisattvas will adorn themselves with diligent, devoted practice.

Amid hunger and suffering, they will readily give in generosity;

in the Age of the Final Dharma (1), they will resolutely expound the sutras.

Before the Buddha, they will voice their solemn vows

to widely proclaim the unsurpassed, sublime, and wondrous Dharma.

In the later evil age, with its fears and vexations,

do not cherish the body, but act for the benefit of sentient beings.

Merely making vows, I fear, will be difficult to fulfill;

better to devotedly practice in accordance with those vows.

In the corrupt and evil age, people will scorn and belittle

the scriptures and those who uphold and cultivate them...

Ananda, behold the inverted age:

on hearing the inconceivable teachings and instructions of the sutras,

people will conceive judgments of right and wrong and deem the Dharma non-Dharma.

Although they may declare, ‘This was not spoken by the Buddha,’

they will desire offerings intended for the unsurpassed path,

while contriving expedient means to destroy the conditions for the Dharma.

In an age filled beyond measure with evil and turmoil,

who will be able to endure and bear it?

Those who hear me speak these words

will stream with tears and choke with grief.

Though one cultivates for myriad kalpas, mindful of the Buddha’s name,

the teachings will nevertheless be difficult to destroy.

Having heard this, the wise will know disenchantment;

conditioned dharmas have no fixed marks or forms.

As though extinguishing a fire upon one’s head, they must strive diligently,

exhaust all outflows without remainder, and realize nirvana.

When celestial spirits behold the evil and treachery of the defiled age,

and see the true Dharma being destroyed, they will grieve.

They will not refuse to relinquish their lives in that age

to rescue the endangered Buddha-Dharma and preserve it from extinction.

Now I behold the Blessed One,

the great and fearless giver of Dharma;

I meet him face-to-face, bow in worship, and reverently beseech him

to proclaim the profound, sublime, and wondrous Dharma.

The bhikshus will devote themselves tirelessly to meditation;

the powers of samadhi, wisdom, and supernormal knowledge will be boundless.

In the later evil age, when the Dharma declines and perishes,

sages, noble ones, and true Sangha members will be exceedingly difficult to encounter.

Those evil monks will flourish,

while practitioners of pure conduct will be overpowered

and denied a place in monasteries, stupas, or sacred shrines.

On hearing of this, the celestial spirits will become alarmed

and lament together: ‘A great calamity has arisen!

The destruction of the Buddha-Dharma is truly lamentable.’

For those who set their hearts on ascetic practice for the Buddha’s sake,

they will disguise themselves as wicked people and subject them to contempt and ruin.

They will form factions and circles of intimates,

slandering the virtuous and creating transgressions.

They themselves will say, ‘The Buddha is our Teacher,’

yet by acting contrary to the Buddha’s intent, they will destroy the Dharma.

They will form improper relationships with female devotees,

making covenants together to build their enterprises,

while deliberately plotting the utter destruction of the Buddha-Dharma.

They will show no reverence for the teachings.

Those wicked bands will disparage and destroy the Three Jewels;

the sages and noble ones will warn others to keep far away.

Like a vicious ox thrusting forth its sharp horns,

on seeing them, one should certainly avoid them.

At that time, those evil bhikshus

will again mock those who practice the wholesome Dharma.

Surely the later age will be inverted and disordered.

Do not become heedless or weary because of afflictions.

The Buddha-Dharma must be cultivated with diligence and concentration.

Do not vie amid the chaotic age and thereby fall into error;

do not associate with those of evil minds,

so that you may leave behind the suffering of cyclic existence...

(1) Age of the Final Dharma: the period when the Buddha-Dharma declines, beginning one thousand years after Shakyamuni Buddha’s parinirvana. We are now in the Age of the Final Dharma; those who cultivate and attain realization are few, while those who exploit the religion are exceedingly numerous, thereby causing many abuses and bringing disrepute upon it. Many seek to demolish stupas, destroy temples, imprison and torment monks and nuns, preventing them from practicing and teaching the Dharma; they prohibit people from going to worship. Solemn places of worship are converted into warehouses, hospitals, factories, workshops, and so forth... Thus Buddhism is being persecuted and suppressed in Communist countries today.
