– MAHĀSĀṂGHIKA VINAYA
– PRECEPTS FOR BHIKKHUNĪS
– ON THE BEGINNING SECTION OF MISCELLANEOUS RULES
ONE MUST NOT WASH SOILED GARMENTS AT A PLACE WHERE MEN BATHE.
When the Buddha was residing in the city of Śrāvastī, after the Blessed One had established the rule against bringing menstrual-stained garments to wash at the bathing place of women, the bhikkhunīs then brought them to wash at the bathing place of men. Thereupon the Buddha instructed:
—If a bhikkhunī brings menstrual-stained garments to wash at the bathing place of men, she commits an offense of transgressing the Vinaya. This is called washing garments at the bathing place of men.
