– FOUR-PART VINAYA

– PĀCITTIYA

RULE 57

Whatever bhikkhunī, upon hearing the recitation of the Precepts, says thus: "Sister, only now do I learn that this rule is drawn from the Precept Scripture and is recited once every half month." If the other bhikkhunīs know that this bhikkhunī has previously sat and attended the recitation of the Precepts two or three times, let alone many times — this bhikkhunī is not to be questioned on account of not knowing or not understanding.

If there is an offense, it should be dealt with in accordance with the Dharma, and in addition the offense of not knowing the Dharma is added, with the words: "Sister, it is truly of no benefit to you, there is no good attainment for you, for during the recitation of the Precepts you did not apply your mind, did not focus with one-pointed attention, did not listen carefully to the Dharma." That one is an ignorant person — a pācittiya.
