EXPLANATION OF THE SCRIPTURE: VAJRASHEKHARAMahaguhyayogatantra
Context
The Great Secret Yoga Tantra (Vajrasekharamahaguhyayogatantra) is one of the most foundational texts of the Vajrayana tantric tradition. Belonging to the Yoga Tantra class, it is one of the four classifications of tantra set forth in Tibetan Buddhism, standing above Action Tantra and Performance Tantra but below the Highest Tantra (Anuttarayogatantra).
The title “Tip of the Vajra” (Vajrasekhara, the Vajra Tip) symbolizes the most essential and incisive point of the secret Dharma. The scripture is regarded as teaching the path directed toward the deepest nature of buddha-nature, which cannot be explained by ordinary intellect but only through secret practice (sadhana) and the guidance of a master.
Main Content
This scripture focuses on teaching Yoga Tantra, a path of practice founded on the harmony of wisdom (jnana) and skillful means (upaya). In the tantric context, “yoga” is not merely bodily postures or physical actions, but the practice of concentrating the whole of body, speech, and mind on transforming oneself into buddha-nature.
The scripture teaches the process of transforming the body through meditative visualization. The practitioner takes the mind as the driving force, transforms it into light, and from that gives rise to the image of the buddha-deities (Ishtadevata). This is the core of Yoga Tantra: one does not regard oneself as an ordinary person full of faults, but directly recognizes oneself as already being a buddha.
The structure of the scripture includes instructions on the sequence of practice, from recollecting the circle (mandala) to the way of performing the visualization of the principal deity and the subsidiary buddhas. It also defines the role of the guru in transmitting these secret arrangements, for only through the commitment between teacher and disciple can genuine results be attained.
🌏 The Buddhist canon is vast — some sūtras (such as comparative Vinaya across schools, or untranslated Tibetan-canon texts) have to this day NEVER been translated into Vietnamese or English by anyone, scholars included. Rather than leave it blank, Inti AI offers a FAITHFUL summary grounded in the tradition — from the sūtra's title, origin and essence — so you can still reach this rare part of the treasury. Whenever an original translation exists, the app shows the original first.
