Visualize seven syllables Lỗ (RU _) within the hearth transforming into the Seven Stars of the Northern Dipper. The Natal Star is placed in the center, with the other six stars as its companions. Then kneel upright, join the palms toward the hearth, and make this invocation:

With utmost sincerity, I reverently invoke the Seven Stars of the Northern Pole:

Venerable Stars Tan Lang and Ju Men,

Lu Cun and Wen Qu,

Lian Zhen and Wu Qu,

And Po Jun.

For the sake of (this disciple, whose full name is...):

Release them from calamity and distress;

Prolong their lifespan,

That they may behold a hundred autumns.

I now perform the homa.

I pray that the Venerable Stars

Descend to this place

And accept this homa.

Erase their entry from the Register of Punishments, Calamities, and Death,

And inscribe them upon the Writ of Longevity.

Cast flowers to form the seats.

To cultivate this Homa Dharma of the Seven Stars of the Northern Dipper is to erase what has been written in the Register of Death and inscribe it anew in the Writ of Longevity. Its divine efficacy is exceedingly manifest: it extends the lifespan and increases the allotted years, dispels calamities, summons precious wealth, and prolongs life. No Dharma surpasses it.

THE NORTHERN DIPPER DHARMA (End)

ESSENTIAL DHARMA OF BLAZING LIGHT

At that time, Śākyamuni Buddha was dwelling in the Palace of the Pure Abodes. He addressed the devas, the Lunar Mansions and Luminaries, and the deities of the twelve zodiacal palaces, saying: “I shall now proclaim the mantra of the past Tathagata King Śāla. If a king’s realm is oppressed by the Five Stars, the Twenty-Eight Lunar Mansions, or the Imperial Seat, he should enter the place of practice each morning at dawn, form the Seal, and recite the mantra seven times. The Five Stars and the various luminaries will then be unable to oppress the seats or bring calamity.

“If Mars (Anõgàraka) is about to enter the Southern Dipper, one should draw the Southern Dipper and Mars beneath the image of a Wrathful Lord (Krodha Nàtha). Therein, draw the figure of that Śatru—hostile enemy—and write the person’s name over the heart. Form the Seal and place it upon the body of the wrathful image, then recite the mantra seven times. Add the name of that Śatru after the word Svàhà, and recite the mantra in a wrathful voice. All calamities will then be removed.

Nam mạc tam mạn đa một đà nam, a bát-la để ha đá xá sa na nẫm. Aùn, khư khư, khư tứ khư tứ, hồng hồng, nhập-phộc la nhập-phộc la, bát-la nhập-phộc la bát-la nhập-phộc la, để sắt-xá để sắt-xá, sắt trí-lị, tát-phả tra tát-phả tra, sa-phộc ha

NAMAHÏ SAMANTA BUDDHÀNÀMÏ _ APRATIHÀTA ‘SASANÀNÀMÏ

OMÏ KHAKHA, KHAHI KHAHI, HÙMÏ HÙMÏ, JVALA JVALA, PRAJVALA PRALVALA, TISÏTÏA TISÏTÏA, SÏTÏRÌ SÏTÏRÌ, SPHATÏ SPHATÏ SVÀHÀ

“The form of that Seal is as follows: Interlace the two hands inward and make fists. Firmly join the two middle fingers; bend each index finger behind its middle finger in the shape of a vajra pestle; and press the two thumbs upon the crease of the second joint of the middle fingers.

“This mantra is empowered by all Tathagatas. It can accomplish eighty thousand kinds of auspicious undertakings and eliminate eighty thousand kinds of calamities and inauspicious evil dreams. If anyone sees or hears of inauspicious events, that person should purify the mind and recite it once; those events will then be unable to cause calamity.

“If the Five Stars approach the Seat and oppress it, pass through it, or invade it while moving retrograde, add the name of that star after the word Svàhà and recite the mantra seven times. One’s destiny will then cause the Five Stars to act benevolently, and they will be unable to inflict harm.

“Or if Venus and its associated stars enter the terrestrial domain of the lunar mansions or the Imperial Seat within such a domain, then, as before, draw the figure of that evil person beneath the image. This will also cause the person to suffer loss and prevent evil intentions from arising.

“Or if one is afflicted by an obscuration caused by Rāhu, and the sun or moon is eclipsed; or if Ketu appears; or if there is drought or great flooding: in a secluded place within the practice hall, dress in black robes and sit facing south. Use ashes from a cremated corpse to draw a triangle. Within the mandala, draw Rāhu, Ketu, and their retinues. In the case of drought or flooding, draw the form of a dragon, and over its heart write the person’s name. At midnight, during the Rat hour, or at noon, burn benzoin incense and recite. Add the person’s name within the mantra. Take a pomegranate branch and lash the figure, reciting the mantra twenty-one times and striking it once with each recitation. The affliction will immediately be eliminated.

“If oppression by the Five Stars is powerful and one’s life-force is declining, perform this Dharma as well.

_ Mantra of the Great Sage for Pacifying Calamities:

Aùn, tát phộc đát tha nghiệt đa, thất-lị duệ, sa-phộc hạ

OMÏ SARVA TATHÀGATA ‘SRÌYE SVÀHÀ

_ Mantra for Destroying Calamities Caused by the Lunar Mansions and Luminaries:

Aùn, tát phộc đát-la, thất-lị duệ, tam ma duệ, sa-phộc ha

OMÏ SARVATRÀ ‘SRÌYE SAMAYE SVÀHÀ

_ Mantra of the Seven Stars of the Northern Dipper:

Ka lị kế, nhập phộc lị dã, ba la bát tra tu trí la, ma gia, sa-phộc hạ

Incense to be used: frankincense and white sandalwood. Sandalwood-shaped pieces may be used.
