Pure in body, speech, and mind,
Cleansing away all defilements,
With single-minded reverence I pay homage
To the Buddhas of the ten directions and the three times.
Through the power of Samantabhadra's vow,
I behold all the Buddhas,
And bow in homage to the Tathāgatas
Throughout immeasurable lands.
Within a single mote of dust
I see all the Buddhas,
Surrounded by hosts of bodhisattvas;
So too in every mote throughout the Dharma-realm.
With all manner of sublime sounds
I extol the Supremely Victorious One.
The ocean of his merit is boundless,
Beyond all power to fully know.
Through the strength of Samantabhadra's practice,
With offerings of the most excellent kind
I make offerings throughout the ten directions
To all the Buddhas of the three times.
With wreaths of flowers and precious incense,
Together with every kind of music,
And the finest of adornments,
I make offerings to all the Buddhas.
Because of greed, hatred, and delusion,
I have committed every evil deed,
Unwholesome in body, speech, and mind;
By repentance may they all be wiped away.
All the merit of sentient beings,
The virtue of the śrāvakas,
The pratyekabuddhas, bodhisattvas, and Buddhas—
In all of it I vow to rejoice.
All the Buddhas of the ten directions,
The moment they attain perfect, complete enlightenment,
I come before them all to entreat them
To turn the unsurpassed wheel of the Dharma.
When the Buddhas reveal the marks of nirvāṇa,
With palms joined I reverently beseech them
To abide in the world for many kalpas,
Bringing peace and joy to sentient beings.
Whatever merit I may attain,
I dedicate it to all sentient beings,
That they may accomplish the bodhisattva practice
And attain unsurpassed bodhi.
I make offerings to all the Buddhas
Of the past and the present,
And I pray that the Buddhas yet to come
May swiftly accomplish the Buddha-path.
Adorning throughout the ten directions
All the Buddha-lands,
Where the Tathāgatas sit at the place of awakening
Amid vast hosts of bodhisattvas,
May the sentient beings of the ten directions
Be rid of all afflictions,
Deeply understand the true meaning,
And forever abide in peace and joy.
As I cultivate the bodhisattva practice
And accomplish the knowledge of former lives,
May I remove all hindrances
Until there remains nothing at all.
May I be wholly freed from birth and death,
From the deeds of Māra and the afflictions—
Like the sun in the open sky,
Like the lotus to which water does not cling.
Roaming throughout the ten directions,
Teaching and transforming all sentient beings,
Ending the suffering of the evil destinies,
Perfecting the bodhisattva practice.
Though I accord with the ways of the world,
I shall not forsake the bodhisattva path;
To the very end of all future kalpas
I will fully cultivate Samantabhadra's practice.
If there be those who cultivate alongside me,
I vow that we may ever dwell in one place,
Our wholesome deeds of body, speech, and mind
All made to be alike.
If I meet a virtuous spiritual friend
Who reveals the practice of Samantabhadra,
I vow to remain ever close to them,
Never to be parted.
May I forever behold all the Buddhas
Surrounded by hosts of bodhisattvas,
And to the very end of all future kalpas
Pay them homage and make them offerings,
Guarding the Buddha-Dharma,
Praising the bodhisattva practice,
And to the end of all future kalpas
Carrying out the path of Samantabhadra.
Though I dwell within birth and death,
I am furnished with immeasurable merit,
With wisdom and skillful means,
With the various samādhis and liberations.
In each and every mote of dust
I see immeasurable lands,
And within each and every land
I see immeasurable Buddhas.
Beholding the ten directions thus,
In each and every sea of worlds,
Of every sea of worlds[1]
I see the Buddhas therein.
Within a single sound
Are all the subtle and wondrous tones,
And within each wondrous tone
Are all the most supreme sounds.
With the power of profound and far-reaching wisdom
I enter the inexhaustible wondrous sound,
Turning the pure and true Dharma
Of the Buddhas of the three times.
All the kalpas yet to come
I make into a single thought,
And all the kalpas of the three times
Appear within a single thought.
Within that single thought
I see the Tathāgatas of the three times,
And I also discern throughout
Their liberation and their realms.
Within a single mote of dust
The pure lands of the three times appear;
In the dust-mote lands of the ten directions
The lands are likewise adorned.
I behold all the Buddhas yet to come
Accomplishing the path and turning the Dharma-wheel,
And, the Buddha's work complete,
Manifesting entry into nirvāṇa.
Wielding the power of spiritual penetration to go everywhere,
The power of the Mahāyāna's universal gateway,[2]
The power of loving-kindness embracing all,
The power of practice perfect in merit,
The power of pure merit,
The power of unobstructed wisdom,
The power of samādhi and skillful means,
The power that reaches to bodhi,
The power of pure karmic strength,
The power that destroys the afflictions,
The power that demolishes all the Māras,
The power that perfects Samantabhadra's practice.
Purifying the ocean of Buddha-lands,
Liberating the ocean of sentient beings,
Discerning the oceans of karma,
Exhausting the ocean of wisdom,
Purifying the ocean of all practices,
Fulfilling the ocean of all vows,
I behold in full the ocean of Buddhas.
As to the oceans of practices and kalpas,
The practices of the Buddhas of the three times,
And the immeasurable great vows—
I have already fulfilled them all.
The practice of Samantabhadra in attaining Buddhahood,
The name of the bodhisattva Samantabhadra,
Eldest son of all the Buddhas—
I dedicate my roots of goodness,
Vowing that they may equal his.
Pure in body, speech, and mind,
Sovereignly adorning the lands,
Reaching perfect, complete enlightenment—
May I become wholly the same as Samantabhadra.
Just as Mañjuśrī does,
So do I cultivate Samantabhadra's practice;
The roots of goodness I have gained
I likewise dedicate.
The Tathāgatas of the three times
Praise this dedication as supreme.
I dedicate my roots of goodness
To the perfect fulfillment of Samantabhadra's practice.
I vow that, at the hour of my death,
All hindrances may be removed,
That I may behold Amitābha face to face
And be reborn in the Land of Peace and Bliss.
Reborn in that land,
May I accomplish the great vows,
And may Amitābha Tathāgata
Bestow upon me the prophecy in his presence.
Purely adorning Samantabhadra's practice,
Fulfilling the vows of Mañjuśrī,
To the very end of all future kalpas
May I bring the bodhisattva practice to ultimate completion.
