Namo to the All-Beneficial Venerable Mañjuśrī Kumāra Bodhisattva Mahāsattva.

The Mantra is:

Ám, bà kế đà, na ma

OṂ_ VĀKEDA NAMAḤ

(The Tibetan Esoteric Teaching records this Mantra as

OṂ_ VĀKYEDA NAMAḤ)

Now I shall expound: the Dharma of the efficacious power of the Six-Syllable Mantra of Mañjuśrī Bodhisattva.

If there be a person who daily recites this Mantra seven times, he will assuredly eradicate and destroy his Karmic Transgressions.

If there be a person who is able to recite this Mantra 108 times daily, then when that person is about to die he will behold Mañjuśrī Bodhisattva before his face.

If there be a person who upholds this Mantra and wishes to accomplish the Dharma: first he eats vegetables, or eats milk-gruel, or eats gruel cooked from barley grains, or eats dry rations made from barley, or goes begging for food. Each day, at the three Times—early dawn, the Noon hour, and dusk—he bathes, dons a separate clean robe, and then recites the Mantra six hundred thousand Times, whereupon the Dharma is accomplished.

The one who paints that Image receives the Eight Precepts, and using no glue boiled from animal hide, paints the image of Mañjuśrī Bodhisattva seated upon a lotus flower expounding the Dharma, fully adorned with every kind of ornament, in the form of a Youth wearing a robe draped to bare the left shoulder. On the right side one should paint the Noble Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva seated upon a lotus flower, his hand holding a whisk.

On the left side one should paint the Noble Samantabhadra Bodhisattva seated upon an elephant. On both sides, amid the clouds in the empty sky, paint the Mantra Immortals (Vidyādharas) holding garlands of flowers in their hands. Below the painted image one should paint the Mantra-holder, his hand holding a censer, gazing in reverence upon Mañjuśrī Bodhisattva.

On all four sides of that image one should paint mountains. Beneath the seat of the Bodhisattva one should make a flower pond brimming with lotus flowers. Thereafter, before the front of the Relic Stūpa, facing the western quarter, set up a pillar.

Having made vast offerings, using butter to light the lamps, take 1,008 Jātī flowers, enchant each single flower once and then scatter them upon the face of the image, whereupon a sound will resound forth—either one hears a wondrous tone, or the pillar trembles. If one hears the marvelous sound, then one obtains what accords with one's mind (one's wishes). If the pillar trembles, then one prevails in all debates and disputations, comprehending thoroughly the words and teachings of all the World, and all sentient beings will love and delight in one. If one does not accomplish this Dharma, then all other undertakings likewise will not come to fruition.

There is, moreover, a Dharma. Take Aloeswood eight finger-widths long, anoint it with Storax (Turuṣka) oil, and using smokeless charcoal made from Khadira wood… cast it into the fire, enchanting each piece once. Burn it from the beginning of the night until the sign of dawn appears, and one will at once behold Mañjuśrī Bodhisattva manifesting his body and coming of his own accord, standing before the face of the Mantra Master. Whatever one seeks and longs for he will fully bestow—save only the matter of lust.

There is, moreover, a Dharma. Before the pillar, using Sandalwood, burn it without cease, and recite this Mantra, whereupon Mañjuśrī will manifest his body and come, and for that person he will expound the profound Dharma, so that one obtains the Supreme Understanding, is forever freed from all illness, attains sovereign mastery, and enters the Bodhisattva Grounds.

There is, moreover, a Dharma. Take Red Sandalwood six finger-widths long and carve it into a lotus flower. Further, grind Red Sandalwood into powder, mix it with water and anoint, then recite the Mantra a hundred thousand times until the night of the 15th, the time of the full moon.

Then before the pillar take the flower petal, with both hands raise the flower while reciting the Mantra, and place it upon the crown of the head. When the radiance appears, take that flower, and it will cause that person to become as one sixteen years of age, with a body and features upright and dignified, his pure golden hue shining brighter even than the light of the sun, his majestic radiance like that of a Youth of the Heavens, all accomplished.

The Mantra Immortals revere him; he lives long for one kalpa, and after that kalpa is ended he is reborn into the World of Ultimate Bliss (Sukhāvatī).

There is, moreover, a Dharma. At the time of a Lunar Eclipse, take the root of White Calamus (Acorus) and, using Gomaya (cow dung), manure, milk, curds, and butter—these five things mixed together—wash the Calamus root. When the washing is done, place it upon the leaves of the Pippala tree (with four leaves placed below and three leaves placed above). Enchant it until it gives off smoke, or grows warm, or manifests blazing fire.

If warm vapor manifests, then one wins the joy of sentient beings and prevails in all debates and disputations.

If smoke arises, then one attains the state of Antardhāna (invisibility), living for ten thousand years.

If blazing fire manifests, then one is able to soar into the empty sky, living for one Great Kalpa.

There is, moreover, a Dharma. Choose a yellow cow that is the only one of its kind; gather all its milk, curds… take the butter and place it in a vessel of refined copper, cover it with 7 Pippala leaves, and then enchant it. If there occur the three matters of the smoke group as above, then it is accomplished. Thereupon drink this butter, and one will either become broadly learned (of great hearing), or attain Antardhāna (invisibility), or soar into the empty sky.

There is, moreover, a Dharma. Take a Puṣyaṅkara seed, at the time of a Lunar Eclipse place it within the eye, and recite this Mantra until the seed trembles. Then take three kinds of metal and make a gem with a bored hole, set the seed standing firm within the hole pierced through the gem, whereupon Antardhāna will issue from the mouth, and one will at once behold it.

There is, moreover, a Dharma. Take Clove, hold it within the mouth, recite this Mantra six hundred thousand times, and then when speaking with people one will obtain all that one seeks and longs for.

There is, moreover, a Dharma. Eat milk, barley grains, or dry rations. Recite the Mantra one million two hundred thousand times, and one will become a Mantra Immortal.

There is, moreover, a Dharma. Go begging for food, not permitted to speak, and upon completing one hundred thousand times one attains the state of Antardhāna. If one recites the Mantra a full koṭi (one hundred million) times, one will at once behold the Noble One Mañjuśrī Bodhisattva expounding the Dharma in this manner, who will assuredly cause one to enter the Assembly of the Great Bodhisattvas of the One-Life Successor (ekajāti-pratibaddha).

If each day one constantly recites this Mantra, then all wishes for benefit and bliss will be accomplished.

There is, moreover, a Dharma. Take Benzoin (Sambrāṇī) and pound it into powder, mix it with butter and form it into pellets like small jujube fruits, making one hundred thousand pellets, enchant each single pellet once, then cast them into the fire and burn them until they are all consumed, whereupon one obtains one hundred thousand gold coins.

There is, moreover, a Dharma. At a river that flows into the sea, a great river: take ten thousand lotus flowers, enchant each one once, then cast them into the river until they are all gone, whereupon one will behold treasure-stores as numerous as the count of those lotus flowers. Obtaining those treasure-stores, one will receive and use them inexhaustibly.

There is, moreover, a Dharma. Take sesame seeds mixed with curds and butter. Taking each pinch, enchant it once and cast it into the fire, up to one hundred thousand times, whereupon that person becomes wealthy and is able to bestow all manner of things.

There is, moreover, a Dharma. Take Gomaya (cow dung) that has not fallen to the ground, mud, and earth, and make an Altar. Scatter all kinds of flowers upon it and then sit, daily reciting the Mantra 1,008 times, and then read the Mahāyāna Sūtras until a full month is complete, whereupon one attains penetrating wisdom.

There is, moreover, a Dharma. Take Bezoar (Gorocanā), enchant it 1,008 times, then smear it upon the forehead, whereupon all sentient beings who behold one will be joyful. Enchant the hair upon the crown of the head seven times and then bind it up in a knot, and all evil persons will be unable to inflict harm.

There is, moreover, a Dharma. Take ten thousand seeds of the Ketakī fruit, enchant each single seed once, then cast them into the fire and burn them until they are all consumed, whereupon all illnesses will be removed.
