佛說十吉祥經
Chinese title:佛說十吉祥經
Thus have I heard:
At one time, the Buddha was dwelling on Mount Gṛdhrakūṭa near the city of Rājagṛha, together with 1,250 great bhikṣus and 5,000 bodhisattvas.
At that time, there were immeasurable hundreds of thousands of retinue surrounding the World-Honored One, and he was expounding the Dharma for them.
Then, in the great assembly, there was a Great Being named Vimalaketu. Relying upon the Buddha's awesome spiritual power, he straightaway rose from his seat, bared his right shoulder, knelt with his right knee touching the ground, joined his palms before the Buddha, and said:
"I respectfully beseech the World-Honored One to expound the names of the Buddhas, the Tathāgatas, the Worthy of Offerings, the Perfectly and Completely Enlightened Ones.
For if there be any good son or good daughter who, seeking the Buddha Path, is able to hear the names of the Buddhas and uphold, recite, and chant them, then they shall swiftly attain non-retrogression from Supreme Perfect Enlightenment."
The Buddha said to the Great Being Vimalaketu:
"Excellent, excellent, good son! That which you ask will bring very great benefit to sentient beings.
Good son! From here, going toward the east, passing beyond Buddha-lands as numerous as the sands of one Ganges River, there is a world named Pristine Adornment. In that land there is a Buddha named Great Radiant Splendor Tathāgata, Worthy of Offerings, Perfectly and Completely Enlightened One, and he is at present expounding the Dharma there.
Furthermore, good son! From here, going toward the east, passing beyond Buddha-lands as numerous as the sands of two Ganges Rivers, there is a world named Sovereign Victory Over All Victors. In that land there is a Buddha named Lamp Brightness Tathāgata.
Again there is a world named Vajra. In that land there is a Buddha named Great Hero Tathāgata.
Again there is a world named Pure Honored Abode. In that land there is a Buddha named Undefiled Dust Tathāgata.
Again there is a world named Golden Radiant Brightness. In that land there is a Buddha named Supreme Elephant-Banner King of Ten Canopies Tathāgata.
Again there is a world named Great Awesome Spirit. In that land there is a Buddha named Awesome Spirit Sovereign King Tathāgata.
Again there is a world named Fragrant Suffusion. In that land there is a Buddha named Supreme Reflection King of Utmost Longevity Tathāgata.
Again there is a world named Jeweled Adornment. In that land there is a Buddha named Inner Jewel Tathāgata.
Again there is a world named Ocean Lamp Brightness. In that land there is a Buddha named Great Ocean Tathāgata.
Again there is a world named Lamp Brightness of the Ten Powers. In that land there is a Buddha named Manifestation of the Ten Powers Tathāgata.
Vimalaketu! You should know that if there be any good son or good daughter who, for the sake of seeking the Buddha Path, takes the seven jewels as many as the sands of the Ganges River and offers them in charity to the Tathāgatas, the Perfectly Enlightened Ones — suppose there be any good son or good daughter who, having heard these names of the Buddhas, then upholds, recites, and chants them, ever keeps them in mind, and broadly expounds them for the great assembly, then that merit shall surpass the former merit."
At that time, the World-Honored One, wishing to restate the above meaning, spoke verses, saying:
When the Buddha had finished expounding this Sūtra, the Great Being Vimalaketu, the bodhisattvas, the devas, nāgas, yakṣas, spirits, and the people of the world all rejoiced. They reverently received and upheld what the Buddha had taught.
