Disciples of the Buddha! In all those Buddha-lands, within each land, each direction, each place, and each pore, there are measureless, boundless, ineffably many great bodhisattvas, all of whom have perfected pure wisdom. The same is true throughout the Dharma realm to the utmost reaches of space.

Thus does the great bodhisattva dedicate these roots of goodness, wishing that all Buddha-lands everywhere be endowed with every kind of wondrous jeweled adornment extensively described above: adornments of fragrance, flowers, garlands, scented ointments, incense, powdered incense, garments, parasols, standards, banners, and mani jewels. In sequence, up to a hundred times beyond these, all are extensively described in the same manner as the jeweled adornments.

Disciples of the Buddha! The great bodhisattva dedicates the roots of goodness accumulated through the gift of Dharma in order to increase all roots of goodness. He dedicates them in order to adorn and purify all Buddha-lands.

He dedicates them in order to bring all beings to maturity. He dedicates them in order to make the minds of all beings pure and unmoving. He dedicates them in order to enable all beings to enter the profound Buddha-Dharma.

He dedicates them in order to enable all beings to attain the supreme merit of purity. He dedicates them in order to enable all beings to attain pure and indestructible merit and prosperity. He dedicates them in order to enable all beings to attain inexhaustible powers of wisdom and lead myriad kinds of beings into the Buddha-Dharma.

He dedicates them in order to make all beings’ measureless voices equally pure. He dedicates them in order to enable all beings to attain the equal and unobstructed eye of wisdom that pervades the Dharma realm. He dedicates them in order to enable all beings to attain pure mindfulness that knows all worlds throughout past kalpas.

He dedicates them in order to enable all beings to attain vast and unobstructed wisdom that decisively understands all Dharma treasuries. He dedicates them in order to enable all beings to attain the measureless practices of great bodhi, pervading the Dharma realm without obstruction. He dedicates them in order to enable all beings to attain identical roots of goodness, equal and free from discrimination.

He dedicates them in order to enable all beings’ three karmas of body, speech, and mind to be fully adorned with pure merit. He dedicates them in order to enable all beings to practice the same practices as Samantabhadra. He dedicates them in order to enable all beings to enter the identical purity of all Buddha-lands.

He dedicates them in order to enable all beings to contemplate All-Wisdom and fully awaken to and enter it. He dedicates them in order to enable all beings to leave behind unequal roots of goodness. He dedicates them in order to enable all beings, with profound minds free from differing characteristics, gradually to perfect All-Wisdom.

Disciples of the Buddha! After the great bodhisattva has thus dedicated all roots of goodness universally for all beings, he further dedicates these roots of goodness in order fully to expound all the powers of pure Dharma practice. He dedicates them in order to perfect the majestic power of pure practice and attain ineffably ineffable oceans of Dharma.

He dedicates them in order that each ocean of Dharma may be filled with the measureless pure light of wisdom pervading the Dharma realm. He dedicates them in order to reveal and explain the distinctions among the phrases and meanings of all Dharmas. He dedicates them in order to perfect boundless and vast samadhis.

He dedicates them in order to accord with the eloquence of all Buddhas of the three times. He dedicates them in order to perfect the sovereign bodies of all Buddhas of the three times. He dedicates them out of reverence for the delightful, unobstructed Dharma of the Buddhas.

He dedicates them in order fully to possess the mind of great compassion that rescues and protects all beings and never retreats. He dedicates them in order to perfect inconceivably differentiated Dharmas, unobstructed wisdom, an undefiled mind, and purified six faculties, and universally to enter all places of enlightenment. He dedicates them in order constantly to turn the equal and irreversible Dharma wheel throughout all Buddha-lands in the Dharma realm.

He dedicates them in order, in every thought, to attain inexhaustible fearlessness, wisdom, and eloquence for revealing and expounding the Dharma. He dedicates them because he delights in seeking all that is wholesome, arouses the aspiration to cultivate roots of goodness, increasingly attains wisdom and great spiritual powers, and clearly knows all Dharmas. He dedicates them in order to draw near and make offerings at all places of enlightenment and to expound all Dharmas so that beings may all rejoice.

Disciples of the Buddha! The great bodhisattva further dedicates these roots of goodness in this way:

He dedicates them in order to abide in the Dharma realm’s measureless abodes. He dedicates them in order to abide in the Dharma realm’s measureless bodily karma, measureless verbal karma, measureless mental karma, measureless equality of form, and measureless equality of feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness. and the nondual equality of the Dharma realm.

He dedicates them even up to abiding in the Dharma realm’s measureless equality of the Tathagata’s places of enlightenment.

Disciples of the Buddha! When the great bodhisattva dedicates roots of goodness in this way, he abides in the Dharma realm’s measureless equality of pure body, equality of pure speech, equality of pure mind, equality of pure bodhisattva practices and vows, and equality of pure places of enlightenment.

This great bodhisattva abides in the measureless equality of the Dharma realm and extensively expounds for all bodhisattvas pure wisdom concerning all Dharmas. Abiding in the measureless equality of the Dharma realm, he can enter all worlds within the body that extends throughout the Dharma realm. Abiding in the measureless equality of the Dharma realm, all Dharmas are luminous, immaculate, and fearless; with a single sound he can end the doubts and delusions of all beings, delight them according to their faculties and dispositions, and cause them to abide in the Dharma of liberation: unsurpassed wisdom of all modes, the Ten Powers, the four fearlessnesses, sovereign spiritual powers, and vast merit.

Disciples of the Buddha! This is the great bodhisattva’s tenth dedication, the Measureless Dedication Equal to the Dharma Realm.

When this great bodhisattva dedicates all roots of goodness in this way, he fully perfects measureless and boundless practices and vows of Samantabhadra. He can universally adorn and purify all Buddha-lands throughout the Dharma realm and the realm of space, cause all beings likewise to attain this, and fully perfect boundless wisdom that comprehends all Dharmas. In every thought he sees all Buddhas appear in the world. In every thought he sees the measureless, boundless sovereign powers of all Buddhas. Namely:

The vast sovereign power; the unattached sovereign power; the unobstructed sovereign power; the inconceivable sovereign power; the sovereign power that purifies all beings; the sovereign power that establishes all worlds; the sovereign power that manifests ineffable languages; the sovereign power that appears in response at the appropriate time; the sovereign power that abides in irreversible wisdom and spiritual powers; the sovereign power that expounds the entirety of the boundless Dharma realm without omission; the sovereign power that gives rise to Samantabhadra Bodhisattva’s eye of wisdom without bounds; the sovereign power that, through unobstructed auditory consciousness, hears and retains measureless Buddha-Dharmas;

the sovereign power that manifests a single body sitting cross-legged throughout measureless Dharma realms in the ten directions without crowding beings; and the sovereign power that universally enters the measureless Dharmas of the three times through perfect wisdom.

He also attains measureless purities. Namely:

The purity of all beings; the purity of all Buddha-lands; the purity of all Dharmas; the purity of wisdom that knows all places universally; the purity of boundless wisdom pervading the realm of space; the purity of wisdom that comprehends every distinction among voices and responds universally to beings through many kinds of voices; the purity of emitting measureless, perfect light that universally illuminates all boundless worlds; the purity of the power of wisdom that gives rise to all bodhisattva practices of the three times; the purity of the power of wisdom that, in a single thought, universally enters the places of enlightenment of all Buddhas of the three times; and the purity of entering all boundless worlds and causing all beings to accomplish what should be done.

All the foregoing are fully attained, fully perfected, fully cultivated, rendered equal, made present, seen and known, awakened to and entered, contemplated, purified, and brought to the far shore.

At that time, through the Buddha’s spiritual power, six kinds of quaking occurred throughout worlds in the ten directions, numbering as many as the dust motes in a million Buddha-lands in each of the ten directions. Namely:

Quaking, universal quaking, and equal universal quaking. Rising, universal rising, and equal universal rising. Surging, universal surging, and equal universal surging. Shaking, universal shaking, and equal universal shaking. Roaring, universal roaring, and equal universal roaring. Striking, universal striking, and equal universal striking.

Through the Buddha’s spiritual power, and because the Dharma is naturally thus, there rained down many kinds of celestial flowers, celestial garlands, powdered incense and various celestial fragrances, celestial garments, celestial rare treasures, celestial ornaments, celestial mani jewels, celestial aloeswood incense, celestial sandalwood incense, celestial parasols with raised streamers, various celestial standards and banners, and countless celestial bodies.

There arose measureless celestial sounds of Dharma; inconceivable celestial voices praising the Buddha; countless joyful celestial voices chanting in unison, “Excellent!”; measureless and countless devas reverently bowing in homage; countless sons of devas constantly mindful of the Buddha, seeking the Buddha’s measureless merits with minds that never departed from them; countless sons of devas playing music, singing praises, and making offerings to the Tathagata; and countless devas emitting great light that universally illuminated all Buddha-lands, revealing measureless and countless realms of the Buddhas and the Tathagata’s transformation bodies, surpassing the heavens.

Just as this Dharma was taught in the Tushita Palace of this world, so too was it taught throughout the ten directions in the Tushita Palaces of all worlds.

Then, through the Buddha’s spiritual power, beyond worlds in each of the ten directions numbering as many as the dust motes in a million Buddha-lands, bodhisattvas numbering as many as the dust motes in a million Buddha-lands assembled together and proclaimed in unison: “Excellent! Excellent! Disciple of the Buddha, you are able to teach this Dharma of great dedication. We all bear the same name, Vajra Banner, and have all come here from the world Vajra Light, from the Buddha Vajra Banner. Through the Buddha’s spiritual power, this Dharma is also taught in those worlds. The assemblies, great banners, words, phrases, and meanings are all just the same, with neither increase nor decrease.

“We have come here through the awesome spiritual power of the Buddha to bear witness for you.

“Just as witness is borne here, so too do bodhisattvas appear and bear witness in all the Tushita Palaces throughout the worlds of the ten directions.”

Vajra Banner Bodhisattva, relying upon the Buddha’s spiritual power, contemplated all assemblies throughout the Dharma realms of the ten directions. His mind of great loving-kindness and compassion grew ever more vast; he entered the merits of all Buddhas, perfected the sovereign body of a Buddha, and contemplated the inclinations of all beings and the roots of goodness they had planted, knowing them all clearly. In accordance with the Dharma-body, the bodhisattva manifested for them a pure body of wondrous form and at once spoke these verses:

The bodhisattva perfects wisdom of Dharma,

Awakening to boundless gateways of true Dharma.

He is the Dharma-light of the Tamer,

Clearly knowing true Dharma without obstruction.

The bodhisattva is a great Dharma guide,

Revealing the profound Dharma, difficult to attain;

He guides measureless beings of the ten directions

And trains them to abide in the true Dharma.

The bodhisattva has drunk the ocean of Buddha-Dharma;

Dharma-clouds rain throughout the lands of the ten directions.

The Dharma-sun appears within the world,

Proclaiming wondrous Dharma to benefit myriad beings.

He is ever a rare master of the gift of Dharma,

Clearly knowing skillful means and entering Dharma well.

Pure Dharma-light illuminates the mind;

Teaching Dharma in the world, he is ever fearless.

Skillfully cultivating Buddha-Dharma, his mind is sovereign;

He can awaken to and enter every Dharma gateway,

Perfecting the ocean of Dharma, wondrous and profound,

And beating the Dharma drum for all beings.

He proclaims the exceedingly profound and rare Dharma,

Using Dharma to nurture every merit.

His mind is filled with pure Dharma-joy,

Revealing the treasury of Buddha-Dharma in the world.

Anointed upon the crown by the Dharma King, the Buddha,

He perfects the Dharma-nature body, a treasury of wisdom.

He clearly understands the true characteristic of Dharma

And abides in every wholesome Dharma.

The bodhisattva practices the great gift of Dharma;

All Tathagatas rejoice and praise him,

Approving the deeds performed by the bodhisattva;

Through this he attains the state of the Honored One among Humans.

The bodhisattva perfects the wondrous Dharma-body,

Truly born through transformation from the Buddhas’ Dharma.

To benefit beings he becomes a Dharma lamp,

Expounding measureless supreme Dharmas.

In accordance with his cultivation of the wondrous gift of Dharma,

He also constantly contemplates those roots of goodness.

Whatever good he does for the sake of beings,

He dedicates entirely through wisdom.

Whatever Dharmas perfect the Buddha’s merit,

He dedicates entirely to beings,

Wishing that they all become pure

And reach the adorned shore of the paramitas.

The Buddha-lands of the ten directions are measureless in number,

Each fully endowed with measureless great adornments.

Such adornments, inconceivable,

Are all used to adorn a single land.

Whatever supreme wisdom the Tathagata possesses,

May all beings fully possess it,

Like Samantabhadra, the true disciple of the Buddha,

Self-adorned with every merit.

Perfecting vast powers of spiritual penetration,

He reaches all lands throughout the ten directions;

Leaving not a single being behind,

He causes all to cultivate the bodhisattva path.

The Buddhas, the Tathagatas, have awakened

Measureless beings throughout the ten directions,

Causing them all to become like Samantabhadra

And fully cultivate the supreme practice.

All the Buddhas and bodhisattvas have perfected

Different kinds of distinctive merit.

Such merits are countless and measureless;

May all beings fully perfect them.

The bodhisattva fully possesses sovereign power;

Wherever he should go to learn, he goes to learn.

Manifesting every great spiritual power,

He reaches measureless lands throughout the ten directions.

Within the span of a single thought, the bodhisattva

Can see countless Buddhas among all beings;

And within a single pore

He gathers all Dharmas and sees them clearly.

The beings of the worlds are countless and measureless;

The bodhisattva knows them all clearly through wisdom.

The Buddhas are as measureless as beings;

The bodhisattva makes offerings universally to them all.

Various fragrances and supremely wondrous flowers,

Jewels, garments, banners, and parasols

Are spread throughout and fill the Dharma realm;

He arouses the aspiration to offer them to all Buddhas.

Within a single pore he clearly sees

Measureless and countless Tathagatas;

All pores are likewise,

And he bows universally to all World-Honored Ones.

With his body he respectfully bows in succession

To boundless and measureless Tathagatas;

With words he also praises the Buddhas

Throughout all kalpas of the future.

The offerings prepared for a single Tathagata

Are as numerous and measureless as beings.

As he makes offerings to one Tathagata,

So too he makes offerings to all Buddhas.

Throughout all kalpas of the world,

He makes offerings to and praises the Tathagatas.

Though the number of worldly kalpas may be exhausted,

The bodhisattva’s offerings to Buddhas never cease or slacken.

Throughout all worlds and all kalpas,

During those kalpas he cultivates meritorious practices,

Reverently making offerings to a single Tathagata,

Never satisfied throughout all those kalpas.

As throughout measureless kalpas he serves one Buddha,

So too does he serve all Buddhas.

He makes no discrimination regarding the number of kalpas,

And never wearies of the work of offering.

The vast Dharma realm has no boundary;

The bodhisattva contemplates it all clearly.

He scatters great lotuses everywhere,

Giving them to all beings and offering them to the Buddhas.

The jeweled flowers are perfect in fragrance and color,

Pure, magnificent, subtle, and wondrous;

Nothing in any world can compare with them,

And he offers these flowers to the World-Honored Ones.

Countless and measureless lands

Are filled with exquisite jeweled parasols.

He offers them all to a single Tathagata,

And likewise offers them to all Buddhas.

Subtle scented ointments, supremely excellent,

Never before existing in any world,

He offers to the Teacher of Devas and Humans

Throughout measureless dust-mote kalpas.

Powdered incense, burning incense, and supremely wondrous flowers,

Jeweled garments and ornaments—

With these he makes offerings to the Tathagatas,

Joyfully serving them without ever being satisfied.

Countless, measureless Lamps Illuminating the World

Perfect the path of bodhi in every thought.

With boundless verses of praise,

He makes offerings to all Tamers.

Measureless and countless World-Honored Ones

All receive unsurpassed, wondrous offerings.

Throughout measureless and countless dust-mote kalpas,

Such praise continues without end.

While the bodhisattva makes offerings to the Buddhas,

Through the Buddhas’ spiritual power they become all-pervasive;

He sees measureless Buddhas throughout the ten directions

And abides in the practices of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva.

Whatever roots of goodness there have been

Throughout the past, future, and present,

May they cause me always to cultivate Samantabhadra’s practices

And swiftly abide on Samantabhadra’s ground.

All that the Tathagatas see and know,

And the measureless beings of the worlds—

May they all become complete like Samantabhadra

And be constantly praised by the wise.

These are the bodhisattvas of the ten directions,

Together diligently cultivating the practice of dedication.

The Buddhas, the Tathagatas, teach me

This most unsurpassed practice of dedication.

In all worlds throughout the ten directions,

May all the beings therein

Be caused to awaken

And fully perfect Samantabhadra’s practices.

The bodhisattva dedicates the practice of giving,

And also firmly upholds the precepts.

He diligently cultivates without fear or retreat,

Gentle and patient, his mind unmoving.

Gathering the mind in meditative concentration, ever focused on one object,

His wisdom understands that objects are identical with samadhi;

He penetrates past, future, and present,

And the world cannot fathom his bounds.

The bodhisattva’s body, mind, and verbal karma—

Thoughts, words, and deeds—are all pure.

Nothing is omitted from all his cultivation;

It is fully identical with that of Samantabhadra.

Just as the Dharma realm is free from discrimination,

All conceptual proliferation and defiled attachment utterly ended;

Just as nirvana is unobstructed,

His mind is always thus, apart from attachment.

The wise possess this Dharma of dedication,

Revealed by the Buddhas, the Tathagatas.

They dedicate every root of goodness;

Through this they can perfect the bodhisattva path.

A disciple of the Buddha who skillfully learns this dedication

Perfects measureless practices and vows,

Encompassing the Dharma realm with nothing remaining;

Through this one can perfect the Buddha’s powers of wisdom.

Whoever wishes to fulfill the Buddha’s teaching

And the vast and supreme practices of bodhisattvas

Should skillfully abide in this dedication;

Samantabhadra is the name of such a disciple of the Buddha.

Though all beings could be counted,

And the measures of minds throughout the three times could be known,

The bounds of merit in these practices

Of Samantabhadra, the Buddha’s disciple, cannot be measured.

Though hairs could measure space and its number be known,

And the dust motes of all lands could be counted,

The practices and vows cultivated by such true disciples

Of all Buddhas cannot be measured.
