An Exposition of the Black Yamāri Scripture (Toh 473)
Background
The Yamārikṛṣṇakarmasarvacakrasiddhikara—“The Cycle Accomplishing the Actions of Black Yamāri”—is a sovereign tantra (Svatantratantra) belonging to the Vajrayāna tradition. Yamāri, commonly called Sát Ma Lợi in Vietnamese, is a protective tantric deity symbolizing the wondrous power that destroys spiritual obstacles and cyclic existence.
This scripture is preserved in the Tantra section of the Kangyur (The Translated Words) and reflects some of the oldest esoteric teachings of the Buddhadharma. The “black” (kṛṣṇa) form of Yamāri signifies profound power and the pure elimination of darkness. The term “Cycle of Accomplishment” (cakrasiddhi) indicates that this is an integral practice, lacking no stage in the process of directing luminous energy.
Main Content
This tantra focuses on the circle of activities (karmaśakti) of Black Yamāri—a practice intended to mobilize wondrous power to eliminate five principal kinds of obstacles: material obstacles, illness, malevolent spirits, Māra, and the obstacle of mental delusion. These activities are not ordinary violence but manifestations of discerning wisdom (Prajñāpti)—skillful adaptability employed to guide beings out of suffering.
The cycle of practice (sādhana) consists of three principal stages: generation (utpatti-krama), elimination (parinirtti-krama), and actualization (anurata-krama). Through these, practitioners internalize the ritual method and use Black Yamāri (Kṛṣṇa Yamāri) to transform the currents of mental energy, winds, and essences (nāḍī, prāṇa, bindu). The purpose is not destruction but the transformation of the entire mind into a pure, luminous state devoid of inherent nature (śūnyatā).
The tantra emphasizes that practitioners must receive the lineage transmission from a highly qualified master, because these esoteric activities require a firm foundation of samaya and a properly trained mind.
🌏 The Buddhist canon is vast — some sūtras (such as comparative Vinaya across schools, or untranslated Tibetan-canon texts) have to this day NEVER been translated into Vietnamese or English by anyone, scholars included. Rather than leave it blank, Inti AI offers a FAITHFUL summary grounded in the tradition — from the sūtra's title, origin and essence — so you can still reach this rare part of the treasury.
