– Chapter 1: Linked Discourses with Deities

– VII: Overcome

1.66. Beaten Down

—By what is the world overwhelmed?

By what is the world enveloped?

What dart has struck the world?

By what is it always consumed?

—The world is overwhelmed by death;

Old age envelops the world;

The dart of craving has struck the world;

It is always consumed by desire.

These discourses were translated into Vietnamese by Venerable Thích Minh Châu and published by Vạn Hạnh Meditation Monastery in the early 1980s. Later, as part of the Vietnamese Buddhist Canon translation and publication program, the collection was reprinted in 1993 and assigned sequence numbers 12 through 16.
