– Chapter 1: Linked Discourses with Deities

– VI: Old Age

1.54. Grounds

—What is the basis of human beings?

What is the supreme companion in the world?

What sustains the lives of beings

Who depend upon the great earth?

—Children are the basis of human beings;

A wife is the supreme companion;

Rain sustains the lives of beings

Who depend upon the great earth.

These discourses were translated into Vietnamese by Venerable Thích Minh Châu and published by Vạn Hạnh Meditation Monastery in the early 1980s. Later, as part of the Vietnamese Buddhist Canon translation and publication program, the collection was reprinted in 1993 and assigned sequence numbers 12 through 16.
