– Chapter 1: Linked Discourses with Deities

– V: On Fire

1.43. Food

Gods and humans alike

All delight in food;

What is the name of the spirit

Who does not delight in food?
(The Blessed One):

Whoever gives with faith

And with a purified heart

Shares in that food

In this world and the next.

Therefore, ward off stinginess;

Give, overcoming that stain.

For beings, merit remains firm

In the world to come.

These discourses were translated into Vietnamese by Venerable Thích Minh Châu and published by Vạn Hạnh Meditation Monastery in the early 1980s. Later, as part of the Vietnamese Buddhist Canon translation and publication program, the collection was reprinted in 1993 and assigned sequence numbers 12 through 16.
