– STORIES OF HEAVENLY MANSIONS

– B. HEAVENLY MANSIONS OF MALE BEINGS

– THE CHAPTER ON WELL-PLACED

7.3

BJT 1127"This heavenly mansion is lofty, with pillars of maṇi-gems, twelve leagues in circumference, with seven hundred magnificent pointed-roof dwellings with pillars made of beryl, spread and lined with gold, beautiful.

BJT 1128There you dwell, you drink, and you eat. There are divine vīṇā lutes producing sweet sounds, there are divine flavors, here there are five kinds of sensual pleasures, and there are women adorned with gold dancing.

BJT 1129On account of what do you have such a complexion? On account of what has this come to be accomplished for you here? And on account of what do delightful pleasures arise for you?

BJT 1130You have attained the divine supernormal powers, of great majesty. When you were a human being, what meritorious deed did you do? On account of what do you have such majesty, blazing brilliantly like this, and your complexion illuminating all directions?"

BJT 1131That divine youth, delighted at being questioned by the venerable Moggallāna, being asked the question, explained of which kamma this was the fruit:

BJT 1132"I, when I was a human being in the human realm, I made a walking path at a road on the edge of a forest, and I planted trees at a monastery. And those of virtuous conduct were held dear by me; with a mind of serene faith, I respectfully offered abundant gifts of food to eat and water to drink.

BJT 1133On account of that, I have such a complexion. On account of that, this has come to be accomplished for me here. And on account of that, delightful pleasures arise for me.

BJT 1134Venerable monk of great majesty, I declare to you the meritorious deed I did when I was a human being. On account of that, I have such majesty, blazing brilliantly like this, and my complexion illuminates all directions."
