6.9

BJT 1102"You are adorned, wearing a garland, having beautiful garments, having elegant earrings, having your hair and beard well-groomed, having ornaments on your hands finely polished, having renown—like the moon in the celestial mansion of the heavenly realm.

BJT 1103There are also divine vīṇās producing sweet sounds. There are eight groups, each group of eight celestial nymphs, dwelling in the realm of the Thirty-Three, noble, well-trained, of dignified bearing, dancing, singing, and making entertainment.

BJT 1104You have attained the supernatural powers of the devas, possessing great might. When you were a human being, what meritorious deed did you perform? On account of what do you possess such might, shining brilliantly thus, and your complexion illuminating all directions?"

BJT 1105That divine youth, rejoicing when questioned by the Venerable Moggallāna, being asked the question, explained of which kamma this result was:

BJT 1106"I, when I was a human being in the human realm, having seen those recluses of dignified bearing, whose knowledge and conduct had been accomplished, who were of good repute, widely learned, having attained virtue—with a mind of serene faith, I respectfully offered abundant gifts of food and drink.

BJT 1107On account of that, I have such a complexion. On account of that, this has been accomplished for me here. And on account of that, pleasing enjoyments arise for me.

BJT 1108Venerable monk of great might, I declare to you the meritorious deed I performed when I was a human being. On account of that I possess such might, shining brilliantly thus, and my complexion illuminates all directions."
