6.8

BJT 1095"You are adorned, wearing a garland of flowers, with beautiful garments, with finely crafted earrings, with hair and beard well-groomed, with ornaments on your hands skillfully polished, with a fine reputation, like the moon in the celestial mansion of the heavens.

BJT 1096And there are divine vīṇās producing sweet sounds. There are eight groups, each group of eight celestial nymphs, dwelling in the Realm of the Thirty-Three, noble, accomplished in their training, with graceful bearing, dancing, singing, and performing entertainments.

BJT 1097You have attained the supernormal powers of the devas, with great majesty. When you were a human being, what meritorious deed did you perform? On account of what do you possess such majesty, blazing brilliantly, and your complexion illuminating all the directions?"

BJT 1098That young deva was joyful when questioned by Venerable Moggallāna. Being asked the question, he explained which deed had brought about this result:

BJT 1099"I, when I was a human being in the human realm, having seen ascetics who were virtuous, whose knowledge and conduct were accomplished, who were of good repute, widely learned, who had attained the exhaustion of craving, with a confident and clear mind, I respectfully offered abundant gifts of food and drink.

BJT 1100On account of that, I have such a complexion. On account of that, this has been accomplished for me here. And on account of that, pleasing enjoyments arise for me.

BJT 1101Venerable monk of great majesty, I have declared to you the meritorious deed I performed when I was a human being. On account of that I possess such majesty, blazing brilliantly, and my complexion illuminates all the directions."
