6.5

BJT 1075"Just as the sun moves through the sky, shining brilliantly in a firmament from which the dark clouds have dispersed, so this heavenly mansion of yours dwells in the sky, shining in just the same way.

BJT 1076You have attained the divine powers of the gods, with great majesty. When you were a human being, what meritorious deed did you perform? On account of what do you have such majesty, blazing with radiance like this, and your complexion illuminating all the directions?"

BJT 1077That divine youth, delighted at being questioned by the Venerable Moggallāna, being asked the question, explained which deed this result belonged to:

BJT 1078"In the human world, my wife and I, living as householders, offered lodging to an arahant. With faithful and serene minds, we respectfully presented the gift, along with abundant food and drink.

BJT 1079On account of that, I have such a complexion as this. On account of that, this has been accomplished for me here. And on account of that, pleasing enjoyments arise for me.

BJT 1080Venerable monk of great majesty, I have told you of the meritorious deed I performed when I was a human being. On account of that I have such majesty, blazing with radiance like this, and my complexion illuminates all the directions."
