– MANSION STORIES

– B. MANSIONS OF MALES

– THE GREAT CHARIOT CHAPTER

5.5

BJT 919"This mansion is lofty, with pillars of maṇi-jewels, twelve yojanas in circumference, with seven hundred pinnacled dwellings of excellence with pillars made of beryl, spread and covered with gold, beautiful.

BJT 920There you dwell, you drink, and you eat. There are divine vīṇās producing sweet sounds, there are divine flavors, here are the five kinds of sensual pleasures, and there are women adorned with gold who dance.

BJT 921On account of what do you have such a complexion? On account of what has this been accomplished for you here? And on account of what do agreeable enjoyments arise for you?

BJT 922O Deity of great majesty, I ask you: 'When you were a human being, what meritorious deed did you perform? On account of what do you have such majesty, shining brilliantly like this, and your complexion illuminates all the directions?'"

BJT 923That deity, delighted at being questioned by the Venerable Moggallāna, being asked the question, explained of which kamma this result was:

BJT 924"My thousand celestial years of lifespan come from what was conveyed by speech, what was carried out by mind; by just that much, one who has performed meritorious deeds will endure, enjoying sensual pleasures in the celestial realm.

BJT 925On account of that, I have such a complexion. On account of that, this has been accomplished for me here. And on account of that, agreeable enjoyments arise for me.

BJT 926Venerable monk of great majesty, I declare to you the meritorious deed I performed when I was a human being. On account of that, I have such majesty, shining brilliantly like this, and my complexion illuminates all the directions."
