– THE GREAT CHARIOT CHAPTER

5.4

BJT 911"This celestial mansion is lofty, with supporting pillars of maṇi-jewel, twelve yojanas all around, with seven hundred magnificent peaked dwellings having pillars made of beryl, spread over with gold, beautiful.

BJT 912There you dwell, you drink, and you eat. Divine vīṇā instruments produce sweet sounds, there are divine flavors, here are the five kinds of sensual pleasures, and there are women adorned with gold, dancing.

BJT 913On account of what have you obtained such a complexion as this? On account of what has this come to be accomplished for you here? And on account of what do pleasurable enjoyments arise for you?

BJT 914O deva of great might, I ask you: 'When you were a human being, what meritorious deed did you do? On account of what do you have such might, blazing thus with radiance, and your complexion illuminating all the directions?'"

BJT 915That deva, delighted when asked by Venerable Moggallāna, being questioned, explained of which kamma this result was:

BJT 916"A memorial object in the form of a crab, fastened to a door panel, with ten legs, completed, made of gold, resplendent—

BJT 917On account of that, I have obtained such a complexion as this. On account of that, this has come to be accomplished for me here. And on account of that, pleasurable enjoyments arise for me.

BJT 918Venerable bhikkhu of great might, I declare to you the meritorious deed I performed when I was a human being. On account of that, I have such might, blazing thus with radiance, and my complexion illuminates all the directions."
