4.2
BJT 698"O maiden with shimmering radiance upon your glorious, noble skin, wearing a lower garment of finely dyed cloth, endowed with great spiritual power, with a lovely form fragrant with sandalwood — O beautiful divine maiden, who are you that pays homage to me?
BJT 699And your couch is of great worth, lovely, adorned with many kinds of various jewels. Seated there, you shine brilliantly like the king of the devas in the Nandana garden.
BJT 700O gentle maiden, what good conduct did you previously practice? What deed's fruit of achievement do you enjoy in the world of the devas? O divine maiden, having been asked, pray tell — this result belongs to which karma?"
BJT 701"Venerable sir, while you were going on alms-round, I offered you a garland of flowers and molasses. I enjoy the fruit of achievement of that deed in the world of the devas.
BJT 702Venerable sir, I have remorse; I committed a fault and acted wrongly. I did not listen to the Dhamma that was well expounded by the King of the Dhamma.
BJT 703Therefore I speak to you thus. Venerable sir, whoever there may be whom I hold dear — please encourage that person in the Dhammas well expounded by the King of the Dhamma.
BJT 704Those devas who have faith in the Three Jewels — the Buddha, the Dhamma, and the Sangha — they shine more brightly than I in longevity, in renown, and in glory.
BJT 705Compared to me, other devas surpass in power and beauty, excelling greatly in spiritual might."
