– STORIES OF HEAVENLY MANSIONS

– A. THE FEMALE DEVAS

– THE PĀRICCHATTAKA CHAPTER

3.10

BJT 681"She arises with a joyful heart while stringing a heavenly garland of beautiful, pleasing pāricchattaka and koviḷāra blossoms, while singing.

BJT 682While she here is dancing, heavenly sounds, soothing to the ear, pleasing, issue forth from all parts of her body.

BJT 683While she here is dancing, heavenly fragrances, being pure fragrances, pleasing, spread forth from all parts of her body.

BJT 684While she twirls her body, the ringing of ornaments in her braided hair is heard as though from five kinds of musical instruments.

BJT 685The garlands worn at the ears are blown by the wind, swayed by the breeze; their ringing is heard as though from five kinds of musical instruments.

BJT 686Moreover, the garlands upon her head are of pure fragrance, pleasing; like the mañjūsaka tree, their fragrance wafts in all directions.

BJT 687She inhales that pure fragrance; she beholds a sight not of the human world. O heavenly nymph, being asked, may you recount of what deed this is the fruit?"

BJT 688"I offered to the Buddha a garland made of aśoka blossoms, brilliant and sparkling, endowed with color and fragrance.

BJT 689Having performed that deed, a good deed praised by the Buddha, with sorrow abandoned, at ease, I arose with gladness, free from affliction."
