– STORIES OF HEAVENLY MANSIONS

– A. THE FEMALE DEITIES' SECTION

– THE THRONE CHAPTER

1.2

BJT 8"Your throne is made of beryl, lofty and magnificent, moving at the speed of mind according to your wish. O lady who is adorned, wearing a garland, clothed in beautiful garments, you shine like lightning upon the peak of a cloud.

BJT 9By what have you obtained such a complexion? By what has this been accomplished for you here? And by what do pleasant enjoyments arise for you?

BJT 10O goddess of great might, I ask you: 'When you were a human being, what meritorious deed did you perform? By what do you have the might to shine so brilliantly, and your complexion illumines all the directions?'"

BJT 11That goddess, delighted when questioned by the Venerable Moggallāna, being asked the question, explained of which kamma this was the result:

BJT 12"I, when a human being in the human world, gave a small seat to guests who came. I greeted them, raised my joined hands in salutation, and offered a gift according to my means.

BJT 13By that have I obtained such a complexion. By that has this been accomplished for me here. And by that do pleasant enjoyments arise for me.

BJT 14Venerable bhikkhu of great might, I declare to you the meritorious deed I performed when I was a human being. By that do I have the might to shine so brilliantly, and my complexion illumines all the directions."
