– STORIES OF HEAVENLY MANSIONS

– A. HEAVENLY MANSIONS OF WOMEN

– THE CHAPTER ON THE SEAT

1.13

BJT 108"O goddess, you stand with a radiant complexion, causing all the directions to blaze with light, like the star Osadhī.

BJT 109By reason of what have you obtained such a complexion? By reason of what has this come to fulfilment for you here? And by reason of what do pleasant enjoyments arise for you?

BJT 110O goddess of great might, I ask you: 'When you were a human being, what meritorious deed did you perform? By reason of what do you have such power, blazing with brilliance, and your complexion illuminating all the directions?'"

BJT 111That goddess, rejoicing when questioned by the venerable Moggallāna, being asked the question, explained of which kamma this was the fruit:

BJT 112"I, when I was a human being in the human realm, was a daughter-in-law in the household of my father-in-law. I saw a bhikkhu — one free from defilements, pure, undisturbed.

BJT 113With a mind of faith, I offered rice-cake with my own hands to him. Having offered half of a portion that had been received, I rejoice in the Nandana Grove in the heavenly realm.

BJT 114By reason of that, I have obtained such a complexion. By reason of that, this has come to fulfilment for me here. And by reason of that, pleasant enjoyments arise for me.

BJT 115Venerable bhikkhu of great might, I declare to you the meritorious deed I performed when I was a human being. By reason of that, I have such power, blazing with brilliance, and my complexion illuminates all the directions."
