—Mendicants, there are these four ignoble expressions. What four?
—Not having seen, one says that one has seen; not having heard, one says that one has heard; not having sensed, one says that one has sensed; not having cognized, one says that one has cognized.
Mendicants, these are the four ignoble expressions.
This discourse collection was translated from Pali into Vietnamese by Venerable Thích Minh Châu in 1976–1977 and published by Vạn Hạnh Buddhist Institute, Saigon, in 1980–1981. As part of the Vietnamese Buddhist Canon translation and publication program, the collection was revised into 4 volumes and reprinted in 1996 as volumes 21, 22, 23, and 24.
