Exposition of Toh 1174 — The Tibetan Treatise Collection
Context
Toh 1174 belongs to the Tengyur, that is, the Treatise Collection of the Tibetan Buddha Dharma tradition, the Northern Tibetan Transmission. This is a collection of treatises and instructions by noble beings and eminent teachers, translated from Sanskrit into Tibetan during the golden age of the Buddha Dharma in the kingdom of Tibet. Although the title has not been specifically identified, this work has been preserved in the most profound treasury of Buddhist knowledge in the Mahayana tradition.
The Treatise Collection is testimony to the transformation of the Buddha Dharma from India to Tibet, where major schools such as Nyingma, Kagyu, Sakya, and Gelug all venerate these teachings as guiding lights of the spiritual path. Toh 1174 represents the effort to explain deeply the subtle points of the Buddha Dharma, matters that the scholarly mind must contemplate and understand clearly in order to attain true wisdom.
Main Content
Although the detailed content has not yet been fully translated, based on the context of the Treatise Collection, this work may be related to explanations of Buddhist Dharma theory or practice, perhaps concerning the Four Noble Truths, the nature of mind, or the path of practice leading to awakening.
The Mahayana tradition emphasizes the bodhisattva path — the path of exerting oneself for the benefit of all sentient beings. Treatises in the Tengyur often explain how to apply loving-kindness (metta), wisdom (prajnapti), and practices for escaping the cycle of samsara. Such works may also discuss the nature of Buddha-nature, the fundamental Mahayana teaching that all sentient beings have the capacity to become Buddhas.
The Tengyur also preserves practical teachings such as meditation (dhyana), study of the Sutra collection, and reflection on the Abhidharma.
🌏 The Buddhist canon is vast — some sūtras (such as comparative Vinaya across schools, or untranslated Tibetan-canon texts) have to this day NEVER been translated into Vietnamese or English by anyone, scholars included. Rather than leave it blank, Inti AI offers a FAITHFUL summary grounded in the tradition — from the sūtra's title, origin and essence — so you can still reach this rare part of the treasury. Whenever an original translation exists, the app shows the original first.
