At that time Maheśvara Deva, in the heavens together with the heavenly maidens, was joyfully roaming about and playing all manner of music. Suddenly, from within the topknot of his hair there appeared a heavenly maiden, her countenance dignified and upright, foremost in arts and skills, such that none among the assemblies of the devas could surpass her, and she spoke a spirit-mantra, saying:

Namo Ucchuṣma-vidyā-śikhara-dhīya Prati-pati-ya śikhara-ca saṃliṃ saṃliṃ Tadyathā Śvanaketi kim-bara-manarini Hūṃ Phaṭ.

For one who upholds and recites this mantra, regardless of whether one is pure or impure, whether one has a wife and children or has none, whether one eats the five pungent herbs or not, whether one partakes of wine and meat or not — if one constantly upholds and recites it, all wholesome wishes shall be wholly fulfilled. How much more so, then, if the three karmas are pure: such a person shall swiftly attain siddhi, of this there is no doubt whatsoever.

If there be any person who, at the setting of the sun, recites this mantra 108 times, there will at once be efficacy.

The method of painting the image:

First paint Maheśvara Deva, his image with a countenance most extraordinary, upright and sublimely wondrous; from his hair there arises a heavenly maiden, foremost in uprightness, beautiful and majestically adorned with garlands, both arms wearing bracelets and rings, her left hand holding a celestial flower; the countenance of the Deva King is most joyful, his right hand extended downward in the posture of resting upon the garment at his left knee, seated upon the throne of the Mātaṅga Deva.

The method of the supreme mudrā: The two hands cross one another on the outside, the left pressing the right, forming a bound clasp together. The dāna and prajñā fingers (the little fingers) stand straight upright, the dhyāna and jñāna fingers (the thumbs) join close together, and when summoning and invoking, move the dhyāna fingers (the thumbs) back and forth. The true words (mantra) are:

Oṃ vitāra-sani bala-mariddhāni Sandhani sandhani Bhindani bhindani Svāhā.

If there be a person who day by day constantly receives and upholds this mudrā, mantra, and true words, making offerings to Maheśvara Deva, then constantly there will be matters of great spiritual efficacy. One should also, each time one forms this mudrā and mantra, make offerings to all the Buddhas. The Buddhas will give rise to joy, and moreover this will heal all illnesses, being most efficacious.

If one recites it fully 1,000 times, it will cause women to give rise to joy. If one recites it 2,000 times, it will cause all people to give rise to joy. If one recites it 3,000 times, one will gain the love and delight of non-humans. If one recites it 4,000 times, all the Vināyaka demons will rejoice. If one recites it 5,000 times, all the nāga maidens will give rise to minds of joy. And up to reciting it ten thousand times, all the devas, nāgas, yakṣas, and the spirit-immortals of the five supernatural powers shall all rejoice.

If a person wishes to see one's true body, then take the remaining firewood that has burned a corpse and recite the mantra 108 times to summon and invite, and one will at once behold the true body.

A further method: if one wishes to subdue an enemy, take red earth and draw the figure of that person, write that person's surname and name upon it, place it beneath the sole of the left foot, tread upon it, and recite the mantra 108 times. Regardless of whether far or near, that person will naturally come to one's place to be subdued.

A further method: if one wishes to make a husband and wife love one another, draw their figures and write their names, and tread upon them as stated in the method above, and they will then love and respect one another.

A further method: if one wishes that the king, the great ministers, and all the people should respect and love oneself, simply act in accordance with the method above. If one wishes to heal illness caused by demons, take khadira wood and cut it into 21 pieces, recite the mantra 21 times — with each single recitation, burn one piece — and that illness will then be healed.

If one is afflicted by a spirit-illness, take asafoetida, gum benzoin, realgar, and leaves of the chinaberry tree, pound these things finely, sift them most thoroughly, blend them with water to make pills, recite the mantra and burn them, and the illness will then be healed.

If the illness is caused by a kumitya (gu-mei) sorcery-sprite, take realgar, gum benzoin, the single-headed solitary root, the horn-tipped ram, cold-corpse dung from a grave, and the hanging-hoof… of each of these eight ingredients make pills, dye them red, and burn them; fumigate them into the nostrils and smear them upon the body.

If one wishes to establish a bound boundary (sīmā-bandha), take water, recite the mantra over it seven times, and scatter and sprinkle it in the four directions as one wishes, far or near, and according to the method the bound boundary will be established.
