NAMO SAPTÀNÀMÏ SAMYAKSAMÏBUDDHA KOTÏINÀMÏ

TADYATHÀ : OMÏ CALE CULE CUNÕDHE SVÀHÀ

I vow that the Buddha, in Compassion, accept my plea for repentance

With Utmost Mind I Repent

The disciple ( Full Name…… ), from beginningless time until now, has passed through many Great Kalpas. Through delusion regarding the Realization of Non-Self, I came to suppose there is Self and Other. Ever pursuing the conditions of the Possessions-of-Self, the Faculties and the Dusts gave rise to disturbance.

The Consciousness-Aggregate raced about, binding and shaking body and mind like a flash of lightning. The eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind, though pure, in a single thought did not awaken. On the contrary, I gave rise to the Six Teachers, stealing the Wealth of the Dharma-King together with the bandit of Extreme Views.

The bandit having grown strong, it surely destroyed the citadel of Nirvāṇa, ravaged the Dharma-Body, and burned away the Wisdom-Life… Transgressions such as these, more numerous than the dust and motes, going from delusion into delusion, without examining beginning or end.

Now I begin to Awaken, and of myself sever this deep-rooted mass of faults. Day and night in dread, body and mind trembling, I forever cut off: delusion of Awakening, craving and attachment, Self and Person… and join together to defend the citadel of Nirvāṇa, returning to the Land of Peace and Bliss. Using the Realization of Non-Self ( the understanding of Non-Self ) I subdue the Six Teachers ( the 6 doctrines of the Heretics ), I take up the Wealth of the Dharma-King ( the Treasure of the Dharma-King ), I deposit the 3 Firm Treasuries ( the 3 solid Piṭakas ), I nourish the Wisdom-Life, I increase and benefit the Dharma-Body, I light the lamp of the Dharma-Nature, ever shining without end.

In the Practice-Vows of Phenomena and Principle, the Dust-Realms are not contrary. I vow to broadly protect the 3 Gems and the 3 Vehicles. The transgressions of the delusion of Awakening, in accord with this Repentance, are eliminated.

I vow that from this day until Bodhi, thought after thought firm and resolute, thought after thought diligent and advancing, body and mind at ease and free, eloquence and discourse without hindrance, that within a single thought I be complete with the All-Knowing Wisdom. One should know that, in Ultimate Emptiness and Quiescence, yet ever delivering and liberating all sentient beings to alike realize Nirvāṇa, I do not make Nirvāṇa the place of Realization.

All of the wholesome Fruits

The reverence, recitation, refuge, and force of Repentance

I dedicate and bestow upon all Sentient Beings

That they depart far from the suffering of the three realms ( the Three Worlds )

And swiftly realize Nirvāṇa

I dedicate that which I myself seek ( the object of my seeking )

To aid in accomplishing the Excellent Siddhi

Having made the vows and the dedication. With utmost mind I take refuge in the Ever-Abiding Triple Gem

I take refuge in all the Tathāgatas ( 4 lines, 1 prostration )

The Five Wisdoms and Ten Bodies of the Buddhas

I vow that together with all sentient beings

We alike enter the Vajra-Realm

I take refuge in the Supreme Vehicle

The Yoga Secret Teaching

I vow that together with all sentient beings

We alike enter the Vajra-Realm

I take refuge in the Non-Retrogressing

Great-Compassion Bodhisattva-Saṅgha

I vow that together with all sentient beings

We alike enter the Vajra-Realm

Having taken refuge in the Triple Gem

Whatever Merits have been gained

I dedicate and bestow upon all Sentient Beings

That together we accomplish the Unsurpassed Path

As above, the Reverent Prostration to the Great Cundī Bodhisattva, the Profound Text of the Burnt-Offering (Homa) Susiddhi Repentance. May the Merit be perfectly fulfilled, the wholesome causes without limit, sprinkling and soaking the Sand-Realms, blending throughout the Holy Assembly.

( When the Practitioner enters Contemplation, at the time of reciting and upholding, one should first clearly know that the Buddhas, the Sentient Beings, and Oneself — this Mind is alike one round brightness.

Firmly seeking and searching, it pervades both crosswise and through. In a single thought present before one, one is complete with Non-Extinction, Non-Duality, Non-Distinction, yet ever abiding peacefully in the profound and deep realm. Remember to bring peace and joy to the multitude of Sentient Beings. Using the correspondence of the 3 Mysteries, perform the Siddhi.

Then, as for what is set forth in the Contemplation within the upholding and reciting, though there be many things, they do not go beyond the sounds of the Sanskrit letters, the common Marks and the particular Marks.

Furthermore, departing far from the Contemplator and the Contemplated, the Upholder and the Upheld, a single Phenomenon and a single Principle are both the secret Principle-Realm, beyond all discussion. Practicing and upholding in this way, how could the Buddha-Fruit not be perfected, the transgression-hindrances not eliminated, and the Siddhi not accomplished?! … )

Shunzhi reign, the year Renchen, late summer ( the close of the summer season )

The disciple ĐỈNH KHIÊM, Dharma-name HOẰNG TUỆ, of the Three Mountains of Central Mǐn, sincerely copied this, having bathed in fragrance (Huân Mộc), and engraved it once again.

📜Why does this text contain “…”?

The “…” is an abbreviation carried over from the Pāli original itself, called peyyāla. The early canon was memorized and recited, so passages repeated verbatim from a preceding discourse were commonly contracted to an elision mark rather than written out in full. Venerable Thích Minh Châu's translation preserves this convention. Some texts therefore look short — but that is the canonical form, not missing content or a truncated translation. The elided passages can be read in full in the preceding discourses of the same chapter.
