Now I follow the Yoga

The VAJRAŚEKHARA SŪTRA states

The MAṆI LOTUS SECTION

THE WISH-FULFILLING RECITATION METHOD

For cultivating this Samādhi

Or like Avalokiteśvara

First select the disciple

Of a lineage that reveres the Dharma

Beloved and revered by many

Possessed of wisdom, valiantly advancing

Resolute in Vīrya (energetic perseverance)

Never forsaking enlightened Wisdom

Filial and obedient to father and mother

Of serene faith in the Three Jewels

Joyfully cultivating the practice of Bodhi

In the four Immeasurable Minds

Without interruption for a single kṣaṇa

Ever delighting in the Mahāyāna Dharma

Abiding in the Bodhisattva Precepts

Revering and serving the Ācārya

And all the Holy Ones

Accomplished in the power of firmness

The valor of a great man

Skillfully versed in the Gate of Correspondence

Ever delighting in the practice of Quiescence

Of wisdom without fear

Adorning the body with the precepts of discipline

Diligently cultivating the Secret Vehicle

Reverently relying on the Path of Profound Principle

Single-minded, with no other aim

Ever delighting to hear the Wondrous Dharma

Having entered the Samaya

Receiving Consecration (Abhiṣeka) from the Master

Having obtained the seal of approval

Before long he shall attain accomplishment

A disciple endowed with these marks

May then be granted the transmission

This is the Wish-Fulfilling Jewel

Able to accomplish all undertakings

As the Sūtra speaks of the place:

A mountainside with a flowing river

A pure Araṇya

A ravine or valley, as one pleases

Free from all dangers, perils, and fears

Make offerings according to one's ability

The practitioner faces the West

Toward the Sovereign King of the Maṇḍapa

Next, pays homage to the Buddhas of other directions

Bowing the five limbs to the ground

Reverently saluting as if awakened

Having bent the knees and knelt long

Joining the palms, hollow within

Wholeheartedly disclosing all:

I, from the beginningless ages,

Have drifted through birth and death

Now before the Great Holy Honored One

With all my heart I beg to repent

Now I too am thus

Vowing to rely on the power of empowerment

May all sentient beings be purified

By the power of this Great Vow

May self and other become free of defilement

The mantra is:

"Án - Tát phộc bà phộc, thâu đà – tát bà đạt ma tát phộc bà phộc, thâu đô – Hàm"

湡 辱矢向 圩益 屹楠 叻猣 辱矢向 圩砰曳

OMÏ SVABHÀVA 'SUDDHA SARVA DHARMA SVABHÀVA 'SUDDHA UHAMÏ

The practitioner should next rejoice in the accumulated Merit and Wisdom of all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas (Contemplate the merits cultivated throughout the past lives of all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas as if performed by oneself, and give rise to joy).

All the Buddhas of the three times

The Bodhisattvas and the holy multitude

Have accumulated wholesome roots

Joining my palms, I rejoice in all of them

Just as I have accumulated

With joy that is no different at all

Next, kneel with the right knee to the ground, join the palms in the Lotus mudrā placed upon the crown of the head, and contemplate prostrating beneath the feet of all the Tathāgatas and Bodhisattvas.

The mantra is:

"Án – Bát đầu ma – Vi"

湡 扔痧 酮

OMÏ PADMA VIHÏ

Having paid homage to the Buddhas, sit as one wishes in the full lotus, half lotus, or Cakravartin posture.

Having formed this Seat Mudrā

Contemplate the Buddhas throughout space

One's own body as before

Abiding amid that holy assembly

The Calm-Contemplation (the two hands) from above the knees

Whirl in dance and join level with the heart

Like a lotus not yet open

Contemplate paying homage to all the Buddhas

_ Next, bind the Samaya

Tie it firm and secure level with the heart

Raise the Altar of Wisdom (the two little fingers) and the Meditation-Knowledge (the two thumbs)

The Vajra Lotus Mudrā

Conveys the one who holds the lotus

Having alerted the holy multitude

Recite this mantra:

"Án – Bạt chiết la bát đầu ma tam ma gia, tát đát phạm"

輆 向忝 扔痧 屹亙伏 僬

OMÏ VAJRA PADMA SAMAYA STVAMÏ

Because of binding this mudrā

The Buddha says: "SON OF THE SUGATA,

You who bear the Great Renown,

By wondrous discernment, embrace and receive,

Recall your ancient Vow,

Before the UNIVERSALLY ILLUMINATING HONORED ONE,

Dare not transgress the command,

Empower and bring it to fulfillment"

_ Next, bind the SAMAYA MUDRĀ OF THE JOY AND DELIGHT THAT PLEASES THE MINDS OF ALL THE BUDDHAS AND TATHĀGATAS

Bind the ten fingers firm and secure

The Forbearance-Vow (the two middle fingers) join and cross in the center

The Altar of Wisdom (the two little fingers) and the Meditation-Knowledge (the two thumbs)

All join together and stand upright

The mantra is:

"Án – Tam ma gia, hô, Tô la đa, Tát đát phạm"

輆 屹亙伏 趌 鉏先凹 僬

OMÏ SAMAYA HOHÏ SURATA STVAMÏ

Because of binding this mudrā

The Buddhas and Bodhisattvas

And all the Vajra-Holders

All manifest delight

_ Next, one should open the gate of the mind

And enter the syllables of Vajra Wisdom

Contemplate upon the two breasts

Right: ḌRA (泣 - TRÀ) Left: ṬRA (誆 - TÏ)

Like the doors of a palace chamber

The supreme Vajra-Binding

The three karmas issue forth simultaneously

Striking the heart, opening the two syllables

The mantra is:

"Án – Bạt nhật la mãn đà đát la tra"

輆 向忝向神 泣誆

OMÏ VAJRA BANDHA TRÀTÏ

Sown as seeds from the beginningless

The accumulated host of afflictions

Now using the Mudrā for Summoning Transgressions

Gather them together and crush them all

Bind the ten fingers firm and secure

Extend the Forbearance-Vow (the two middle fingers) like a needle

Bend the Advance-Power (the two index fingers) like a hook

In the mind, contemplate summoning all the transgressions

Contemplate all those grave transgressions

Manifesting their forms, black as hair

And seal them upon the heart

Having touched, recite the mantra

In correspondence with the three karmas

Once this summoning is complete

Then perform the Method of Demolition

The mantra is:

"Án – Tát bà bả ba ca ly sái noa vĩ thâu đà ná tam ma gia bạt nhật la Hồng nhạ"

輆 屹楠 扒扒一溶仕 合夸叻巧 屹亙伏 向忝 嫟 切

OMÏ SARVA PÀPA AKARSÏAYA VI'SODHANA SAMAYA VAJRA HÙMÏ JAHÏ

Having summoned them into the palms

Then perform the Method of Demolition

Interlock the prior mudrā within

Calling HÀM (HÙMÏ) to bind all the transgressions

The Forbearance-Vow (the two middle fingers) extend straight together

Bearing the syllable ḌRA-ṬRA (泣誆 - TRÀTÏ)

Contemplated as a Vajra pestle

Together striking as if shattering a mountain

The forbearing phrase and the wrathful form

Are able to purify the evil destinies

Having recited, the Forbearance-Vow (the two middle fingers) strike

Twenty-one (21) times, according to the rite (the ritual rule)

The mantra is:

"Án – Bạt nhật la bá ni vĩ tát phổ tra dã – Tát bà bả da mãn đà ná nễ bát la mẫu khất sái dã – Tát bà bả dã nghiệt để tích dược - Tát bà đát vãn – Tát bà đát tha nghiệt đa phạt nhật la ta ma dã – Hồng dát la Tra"

OMÏ VAJRAPÀNÏI VISPHOTÏAYA SARVA PÀYA BANDHANÀNI PRAMOKSÏAYA - SARVA PÀPAYA GATEBHYAHÏ - SARVA SATVA MÀMÏ - SARVA TATHÀGATA VAJRA SAMAYA HÙMÏ TRÀTÏ

Using this Gate of Correspondence

The Buddhas of old proclaimed as skillful means

The transgressions accumulated through the three karmas

Boundless hindrances, exceedingly grave

Once this demolition and destruction is done

Like fire burning withered grass

Sentient beings, ever deluded and ignorant,

Know not this profound principle

For the sake of the Tathāgata's Great Compassion

This secret and wondrous gate is opened

Next, one should bind the entering mudrā

And enter the syllable of Tathāgata Wisdom

Bind the two hands firm and secure

The Meditation-Knowledge (the two thumbs) within the palms

Take the two degrees of Advance-Power (the two index fingers)

And lean them together like a ring

Contemplate an eight-petaled lotus before you

Upon it place the syllable A (狣)

Because of the two adorning points

The wondrous syllable becomes AḤ (珆 _ AHÏ)

White as the snow of Kha

Radiating a thousand beams of light

Contemplate using the limb of Advance-Power

To set the recited syllable secure in the heart

The three karmas all engaged

Recite this mantra:

"Án – Phạt nhật la , a vi xả , Ác"

輆 向忝 狣合在 珆

OMÏ VAJRA AVI'SA AHÏ

Having contemplated it within the heart

The form of the syllable surpassingly radiant and wondrous

This indeed is the Substance of the Dharmadhātu

The practitioner should contemplate and see it

Before long he realizes Quiescence

For Dharmas are originally never arisen

The Tathāgatas of the three times

Their Vajra Body, Speech, and Mind

All employ the wondrous skillful means

Held within the Vajra fist

With this they seal shut the gate of the mind

The syllable of Wisdom guards it firm and secure

Then bend the degrees of Advance-Power (the two index fingers)

Resting upon the backs of the Meditation-Knowledge (the two thumbs)

Bring the mudrā to touch the chest

Then recite this wondrous mantra:

"Án – Phạ nhật la mẫu sắt trí Hàm"

輆 向忝觜泏 圳

OMÏ VAJRA MUSÏTÏI VAMÏ

The practitioner abides in equipoise

Bind the two hands firm and secure

Place them upturned beneath the navel

The Meditation-Knowledge (the two thumbs) in the shape of a lotus

This is called the Samādhi Mudrā

Recite this mantra:

"Án - Tam ma địa Bát đầu mê ngột ly"

輆 屹交囚 扔榰 猭

OMÏ SAMÀDHI PADME HRÌHÏ

Breathing out and breathing in

Abide in ĀNĀPĀNA (Ānāpāna)

Contemplate the Buddhas throughout space

Snapping their fingers to alert me:

"Son of the Buddha! How will you

Attain Unsurpassed, Perfect Awakening,

Not knowing the Tathāgatas'

Wondrous Dharma of true reality?"

Having heard this alerting

The practitioner replies again:

"What is the truly real?

May the SUPREMELY VICTORIOUS HONORED ONE proclaim it"

The Buddhas all rejoice

And speak these victorious words:

"Excellent! Mahāsattva,

You who can ask in this way,

Contemplate within the Mind

The Inner Gate of the Syllable AḤ

Use the syllable to penetrate through the Mind

Recite this mantra:

"Án – Chỉ đa bát la để Vị đặng Ca lộ nhĩ"

輆 才柰 盲凸吒尼 一刎亦

OMÏ CITTA PRATIVEDHAMÏ KARA UMI

One should recite it silently once

Then contemplate it becoming a moon-disc

Wishing to redouble one's diligence

Recite further this wondrous mantra:

"Án – Bộ đề chỉ đa mẫu đát bả đà dạ nhĩ"

輆 回囚才柰觜瘑叨 仲亦

OMÏ BODHICITTAM UTPÀDA YÀMI

Able to make the moon-disc of the heart

Perfect and utterly pure

In its midst contemplate a wondrous lotus

Upon which is set a Vajra Jewel

The mantra is:

"Án – Để sắt xá ma ni phạt nhật la bát ná ma"

輆 凸沰 亙仗向忝 扔痧

OMÏ TISÏTA MANÏIVAJRA PADMA

Expand its measure equal to space

Encompassing the Triple World everywhere

Recite further this wondrous mantra

The VAJRA SPEECH apart from sound:

輆 剉先 亙仗向忝 扔痧

OMÏ SPHARA MANÏIVAJRA PADMA

Herein draw forth the wondrous lotus

Radiating a thousand beams of fire

Within each single light

Are immeasurable Buddha-fields

Within the fields are wondrous lotuses

Contemplate the One Who Holds the Lotus

Holding a jeweled lotus and a victorious banner

From the banner pour forth wondrous sounds (subtle, wondrous sounds)

Only those of scant merit (?)

Shall have all their vows fulfilled

Abiding therein in the QUIESCENT SAMĀDHI

Benefiting all sentient beings

Bodhisattvas of this kind

All abide in equipoise

From the LOTUS WOMB-TREASURY (Garbha)

Radiate a thousand wondrous beams of light

All benefiting sentient beings

The Perfection of GIVING (Dāna-pāramitā) and the rest

Enter universally into all Samādhis

The Skillful Gate of Profound Principle

Out of compassion for sentient beings

Performing immeasurable skillful means

From birth unto Nirvāṇa

Turning the GREAT WONDROUS DHARMA WHEEL

All issuing forth from the WISH-FULFILLING JEWEL

The wondrous Dharma that has been spoken

All employs the WHEEL TO ACCOMPLISH

Using the WHEEL as WONDROUS WISDOM

Able to sever all the FETTERS

By turning the Wondrous Dharma Wheel

This is the path of Merit and Wisdom

Next, all should rightly contemplate

Gradually examining that WISDOM-LOTUS

The mantra is:

"ÁN – Tăng ha la ma ni phạt nhật la bát ná ma"

輆 戌成先 亙仗向忝 扔痧

OMÏ SAMÏHARA MANÏIVAJRA PADMA

Wherever the Tathāgatas reside

All enter and become one substance

Just as in a bright mirror

All the myriad images appear

The SUBSTANCE OF THE SELF-NATURE OF THE DHARMADHĀTU

Abides upon the Vajra lotus

Then transform that jeweled lotus

Into the BODHISATTVA CINTA (Cintā Bodhisattva)

In his hands holding the Wish-Fulfilling Jewel

His body of six arms, golden in color

All contemplated upon one's own body

The crown-topknot adorned with jewels

The diadem bears the SOVEREIGN KING

The hands bearing the mark of Teaching the Dharma

The first hand: in contemplation

Lovingly mindful of sentient beings

The second holds the WISH-FULFILLING JEWEL

Able to fulfill all vows

The third holds the rosary

To rescue the suffering of the animal realm

The left presses upon the Mountain of Radiant Light

Accomplished and unshakable

The second hand holds the lotus

Able to purify all that is not the Dharma

The third hand holds the Wheel (cakra)

Able to turn the Unsurpassed Dharma

Six arms: the VAST AND BROAD SUBSTANCE (the vast and great body)

Able to roam through the six destinies

Using the skillful means of Great Compassion

To sever all the suffering of sentient beings

The practitioner contemplates thus:

Seated within the moon-disc

The body pouring forth a thousand beams of light

Crown and back: a round halo of light

Then contemplate the moon-disc of the HEART

Also bearing a jeweled lotus

Using this, one is able to be firm

Unmoving, contemplating one's own body

In order to depart from all false imaginings

Recite this mantra:

NAMAHÏ ÀRYA AVALOKTE'SVARÀYA BODHISATVÀYA MAHÀ SATVÀYA - MAHÀ KÀRUNÏIKÀYA

TADYATHÀ: OMÏ CAKRA VARTTI CINTÀMANÏI MAHÀ PADME RURU TISÏTÏA JVALA AKARSÏAYA HÙMÏ PHATÏ SVÀHÀ

Next, bind the SECRET HEART

Based on the prior Root Mudrā

Bind the Altar of Wisdom (the two little fingers) and the Precept-Region (the two ring fingers)

This is named the ROOT HEART MUDRĀ

All the wishes and vows

Respond according to the thought of the Mind

Because of binding this mudrā

All are brought to accomplishment

The mantra is:

"Án – Bát na mê chân đa ma ni nhập phộc la Hồng"

輆 扔痧 才阤亙仗 捂匡 嫟

OMÏ - PADMA CINTÀMANÏI JVALA HÙMÏ

Next, bind the ACCORDANT-HEART MUDRĀ

Bind the two hands firm and secure

The Advance-Power (the two index fingers) in the shape of the MAṆI

The Meditation-Knowledge (the two thumbs) extended alongside each other

The Precept-Region (the two ring fingers) also extended straight

The Altar of Wisdom (the two little fingers) crossed firm together

Recite this HEART-WITHIN-THE-HEART:

The mantra is:

"Án Mạt la ná bát ná mê Hồng"

輆 向先叨 扔榰 嫟

OMÏ VARADA PADME HÙMÏ

Next, contemplate within the mouth of the HONORED ONE

Pouring forth secret words

Clearly forming the PATH OF SYLLABLES (a path filled with syllables)

Of five-colored light, radiant and wondrous

Hues exquisite and intermingled

Entering into the mouth of the YOGI (the Yogi, one who practices Yoga)

Arrayed within the moon-disc of the HEART

Clear as rose-colored crystal

Each and every one pondered carefully

Awakening in accord with the principle

Abiding in samādhi while cultivating

Entering the GATE OF THE SYLLABLE A

Then entering the CONTEMPLATION OF THE WHEEL OF SYLLABLES

Contemplating all the syllables throughout

This is named the SAMĀDHI RECITATION

Attaining Wisdom together with liberation

Because of this correspondence

Before long one accomplishes the Wisdom of All Kinds

If one follows recitation with the ORDINARY SOUND (the ordinary voice)

Supreme, wondrous, and rare

Abiding in the CONTEMPLATION OF THE TUTELARY DEITY

Without giving rise to a hasty, impatient mind

Neither high nor low

Neither slow nor hurried

The Wise One departs from discrimination

And from all minds of false imagining

If one recites a Lakṣa-fold (100,000 times)

All that is sought is Siddhi (Siddhi _ accomplishment)

The two hands holding the rosary

Of crystal and lotus seeds

Conch-pearls and other jewels

Bright and beautiful, without flaw

One should string one hundred and eight

For each bead recite seven times

The HEART AND THE HEART-WITHIN-THE-HEART

Or the VIKURDARA

Empower with this Dharma

Having strung the rosary of pearls

At the heart, for each single degree

Together with SVĀHĀ in unison (in one voice)

One thousand one hundred and eight times

Recite according to one's strength

Four periods or three periods

This Dharma, after the VICTORIOUS night

Within the WISH-FULFILLING WHEEL Sūtra

The ROOT TEACHING, the Buddha has spoken

If one cultivates in this way

In this very life one realizes the FIRST GROUND (Bhūmi)

After sixteen lives hereafter

One attains UNSURPASSED BODHI

How much more the WORLDLY SIDDHI (accomplishment of worldly matters)

If this life is not according to one's wish

Having recited according to one's strength

Bind again the SAMAYA

Then perform the Eight OFFERINGS

Dispatch the lord of the mantra

Bind the two hands firm and secure

The Forbearance-Vow (the two middle fingers) in the shape of lotus petals

From the heart up to the face, release

Upon the crown join the Flower Palms

Contemplate the HONORED ONE in space

Returning again along the path to the palace

The mantra is:

"Án – Bát ná ma Tát đát phộc ngột ly mục"

輆 扔痧屹玆 猭 鄖

OMÏ PADMA SATVA HRÌHÏ MUHÏ

Having dispatched the Holy Ones

Abide in oneself in the supreme TUTELARY DEITY

Or in a place of leisure and quiet

Recite the MAHĀYĀNA

The LAṄKĀVATĀRA and the AVATAṂSAKA

The PRAJÑĀ together with the PROFOUND PRINCIPLE

Such groups of scriptural teachings

Ponder them, then cultivate

Having recited and read the scriptures

As one wishes, walking, standing, sitting

Before long one shall attain accomplishment

The VAJRA-RESIDENT has spoken

This ritual manual of Great Compassion

Heeds neither day nor constellation (the asterisms)

Time, eating, bathing

Whether pure or impure

One should ever be without interruption

Swiftly departing from distraction

Resisting it in quietude and stillness

Reckoning not the affairs of the world

When the recitation is done, give rise to the vow

Bind the SAMAYA MUDRĀ

Having paid homage to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas

Walk in meditation as one wishes

THE AVALOKITEŚVARA BODHISATTVA WISH-FULFILLING WHEEL YOGA
