To all the multitudes of sentient beings,
Through past, future, and present, never ending—
Yet the Buddha-lands are truly vast,
Boundless beyond, beyond all telling.
And each single mote of dust is a land,
The Buddha-lands as vast as those dust-motes.
In every one of these dwells a Buddha,
Numerous as the sands of dust, I bow to them all.
Those dust-motes multiplied beyond the Buddha-realms—
Within them, every Buddha I extol.
I make offerings with single-hearted devotion,
Passing through kalpas many as fine dust.
I bow my head to the Buddhas and the assemblies;
In the Triple Gem I ever take refuge of life.
I shall bring forth the most precious flowers
And the finest goods to offer in alms.
If I have given rise to any transgressions,
I now must repent of them all.
If among my sins some have not yet arisen,
From them all I shall ever keep far away.
And to all the precious stores of merit and virtue,
Therein I shall ever rejoice in sympathy.
This merit I dedicate to sentient beings,
Together with the Buddhas' supreme fruit of Bodhi.
As the Buddha proclaims within the True Dharma,
The power of my vow is firm and true.
I shall ever make offerings to the World-Honored Ones;
May I at last attain Buddhahood.
May I, life after life, possess profound wisdom,
Ever like the Bodhisattva Mañjuśrī.
A heart of loving-kindness, knowing suffering, rescuing the world—
May I be like the Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara.
Samantabhadra, with loving-kindness, gazes upon sentient beings;
May I, with Samantabhadra, be no different.
With a mind of kindness and goodness regarding all kinds of beings,
May I ever be like Maitreya.
In giving, may my vow be like the treasury of empty space;
In keeping precepts, may my vow be like the wisdom of spiritual powers.
Forbearance and diligent effort—those two gates—
May I ever be able to apply myself with zeal.
The power of concentration that gathers in all distractions—
May I become like Vajrapāṇi.
Skillfully proclaiming the Dharma-gates of the Ten Grounds,
Speaking of wisdom, may my vow be like Vajragarbha.
Before the Buddha, the World-Honored One, skillfully inquiring,
May I become like Sarvanīvaraṇaviṣkambhin, the Remover of Obstructions.
With deep-hearted wisdom firm and unshakable,
May I ever be like Firm Wisdom.
Spiritual powers unobstructed, skillful in expedient means,
May I become like Vimalakīrti.
Skillfully aiding sentient beings in all roots of goodness,
Able and diligent, may my vow be ever valiant and strong.
Skillfully able to expound the Dharma of the Pāramitās,
May I become like Akṣayamati.
Endowed with measureless and wondrous sounds,
May I be no different from the one of Wondrous Sound.
Drawing near to good and wise friends with a mind that never wearies,
I vow, life after life, to be like Sudhana.
Empty space cannot compare; skillfully proclaiming the Dharma,
May I become like Ākāśagarbha.
The earth that can nurture and rear the whole of life—
Universally benefiting, may my vow be like Kṣitigarbha.
At once removing the suffering of craving, benefiting sentient beings,
May I be no different from the Spirit of the Treasury of Jewels.
Words that pour forth the inexhaustible, wondrous Dharma-jewel,
May I become like Dharmodgata.
With wisdom firm and ever diligent,
May I be no different from the Venerable Sadāprarudita.
These are the foremost of all the sons of the Buddha,
Their supreme merits gathered beyond all bounds.
Their renown is vast and great, and inexhaustible;
May my own renown be likewise.
I now praise and extol the merits of the Buddha,
Supreme, victorious, and good, exceedingly vast.
I universally vow that all sentient beings of the world
May abide in those most victorious merits.
